Drives bus to transport students over specified routes according to time schedule. Complies with traffic regulations.
Essential Job FunctionsResponsible for driving school buses safely and professionallyResponsible for monitoring mechanical condition of the bus by performing daily bus pre-trip inspections and completing associated forms; report any deficiencies to the Bus MechanicResponsible to annually create and maintain entire series of assigned runs, including the run times and routes of travelResponsible for providing Transportation Dispatcher with all updated route information and changes as they occurResponsible for filling out count week logs and turning in to Transportation DispatcherResponsible for reporting any route time issues to the Transportation DispatcherResponsible for reporting any hazards which could potentially threaten the safety of the studentsResponsible for preparing written reports for injuries, accidents and student conduct issuesResponsible to administer emergency treatment resulting from a bus accidentResponsible to maintain, and use properly, all bus safety equipment including fire extinguishers, flares, triangles, wheelchair tie-downs, booster seats and seat beltsResponsible to check all bus fluids and fuel daily and fill as requiredResponsible for following designated routes of travel and utilizing approved stop locations onlyResponsible for supervising the behavior of students and maintain order on the busResponsible for instructing passengers on proper bus behaviorResponsible for obeying all traffic laws, regulations and proceduresResponsible for conducting emergency evacuation drillsResponsible to report discipline problems to the principalsResponsible for checking bus for any remaining students and confirming by a displaying signResponsible to clean inside of bus daily and outside as requiredResponsible to maintain regular and reliable attendanceResponsible for related duties as assignedRequirements
High School GraduateMust enjoy working with children of all ages and be sensitive to their needsMust be free from adverse effects of medication, alcohol and drugsMust use respectable and appropriate language at all timesMust have or be able to obtain and maintain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Type B or higherMust have or be able to obtain and maintain a type P "passenger", type S "school bus" and air brake endorsementsMust be able to meet the criteria and pass the physical examination per Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (49 CFR 391.41-391.49), and comply with WWPS Bus Driver Physical RequirementsMust have passed or be able to pass Michigan School Bus Driver Education CourseMust be able to demonstrate proficiency in handling and maneuvering a school busMust submit to random drug and alcohol testingMust be able to speak, read and write at a level of proficiency that permits satisfactory job performanceMust be neat in appearanceMust be willing to attend seminars and in-service trainingMust have ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community

The job typically requires some physical exertion. The School Bus Driver has a moderately strenuous job. The Driver must sit for long periods and requires intense concentration, particularly in poor driving conditions. The School Bus Driver must work in all different weather conditions including extreme cold and extreme heat. The School Bus Driver must maintain order and discipline on the bus while driving in a safe and appropriate manner. The employee may be required to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff. The employee is directly responsible for the safety and well-being of students during transport.
