Schedule: day shift, 40 hoursThe Lead Anesthesia Technician works collaboratively with members of the Anesthesia staff (Anesthesiologists and CRNA) to facilitate and support delivery of perioperative care to patients and oversees the work of other Anesthesia Technicians. The Lead Anesthesia will also assure the practice of the Patient and Family Centered Care Model in an environment that exemplifies best practice.Responsibilities

Collaborates in the perioperative anesthesia care of patients to ensure safety and efficiency of care as observed by the members of the anesthesia team, and reported to the Director of Perioperative Business Services and the Chief of Anesthesia.Participates in the transfer of patients from stretcher/bed.Attaches vital signs and related monitoring devices to the patient.Collaborates in the safe, efficient transfer of the patient from the operating room to the PACU by having transfer oxygen and ambu bag available immediately post operatively.Performs related duties in a prompt and courteous manner, such as transporting blood samples.Performs all duties independently, consistently meeting all requests/needs of the anesthesia team for delivery of care to the surgical patient without reminders and/or reported page calls.Maintains appropriate supply of anesthesia equipment and pharmaceutical supplies in all locations where anesthesia and related procedures are administered in the hospital to facilitate prompt anesthesia care for the patient. These activities are monitored by the anesthesia staff and reported to the Director and the Chief of Anesthesia.Coordinates requests from the anesthesia team by collecting items needed during each surgical procedure.Maintains par levels of gas tanks for the anesthesia units (machines).Maintains anesthesia equipment/monitoring units in working condition by communicating with the biomedical department and/or equipment service representatives to ensure availability of equipment.Executes equipment repairs within 24 hours to ensure patient safety and continuance of planned schedule of surgical procedures.Monitors a log of daily anesthesia equipment safety checks, performed by anesthesia technician, and documented appropriately, to comply with safety requirements established by the hospital, accreditation requisites and regulatory agencies.Can produce a complete and organized safety check log without prior notification.Assists the Director by completing purchase requisitions for needed supply items when par levels are affected.Prepares purchase requisitions with all necessary data and cost analysis before presenting to Director, Business Services for approval and signature.Maintains all equipment and instrumentation in clean organized condition in accordance to the hospital infection management policy. These associated activities are monitored by the anesthesia team, and unmet recommended practices reported to the Director and Chief of Anesthesia.Coordinates the cleaning of the anesthesia carts and machines.Cleans and/or replaces all used parts of the anesthesia equipment, cleans non-disposable items and discards one time use items.Maintains appropriately, special instruments and equipment, i.e. fiberoptic bronchoscope, endtidal Co2 monitors, humidifiers etc., 90% of the time.Participates in the special cleaning and/or removal and terminal sterilization of equipment exposed to diagnosed contagious diseases 100% of the time.No instances of inappropriate cleaning/processing anesthesia equipment reported to the nurse manager and/or chief of anesthesia in one evaluation period.Participates in quality improvement activities for the operating room and the department of anesthesia upon request.Collects data as required by the quality improvement criteria determined by the Chief of Anesthesia and Director.Supports the quality improvement monitoring through knowledge of the 10 step process as observed by the nurse manager and/or chief of surgery 90% of the time.Oversees and coordinates the work of other Anesthesia Technicians under the direction of the Director, Periop Business Services.Ensures that the day to day operations to support patient care are carried out in an efficient manner by the anesthesia technicians.Provides orientation to new members of the staff in the Anesthesia Technician and Orderly roles.Problem solves with Director to improve system currently in place.Assists in the performance evaluation of Anesthesia Technicians.Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent required.Minimum of 1 year experience as Anesthesia Tech required.Staff adheres to all C.A.R.E. Standards.Check all anesthesia equipment in the proper working condition.Maintain par levels of supplies in Anesthesia Cart.Maintain cleanliness of Anesthesia equipment and workroom per Infection Control policy.Sound knowledge of surgical asepsis, decontamination and sterilization principles.Able to read, write and speak English.Detail oriented - follow up on issues identified.Troubleshoot anesthesia equipment.Ability to precept new employees.Good communication skills.Strong problem solving skills.Basic Computer skills.About Brigham & Women's Faulkner HospitalBrigham and Women's Faulkner Hospital, an affiliate of Mass General Brigham, is committed to supporting patient care, research, teaching, and service to the community.
