MINIMUM QUALIFICATION:Registration as either a Provisional Licensed Professional Counselor or a Provisional Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist by the Louisiana Board of Licensed Professional Counselors.NOTE:Pursuant to Act 484 of the 2014 Legislative Session and effective May 1, 2015, Counselor Interns are now called "Provisional Licensed Professional Counselors" (PLPCs) and MFT Interns are now called "Provisional Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists" (PLMFTs).

May be used by all state agencies.JOB DISTINCTIONS:

Differs from the Social Service Counselor job series by presence of recognition as a Licensed Professional Counselor-Intern or a Marriage and Family Therapy Intern by the Louisiana Licensed Professional Counselors Board of Examiners. Differs from the Professional Counselor 2 by the absence of greater independence and more complex caseloads.

RESPONSIBILITIES:Provide individual, family, and group counseling/therapy to children, adolescents, and adults with mental health and substance use disorders based on individualized treatment plans.Use evidence-based practices and integrated treatment models to treat/counsel individuals served toward achieving their identified goals.Serve as a liaison and coordinator between the individual served, their family, and other agencies/providers.Collaborate with the treating psychiatric provider and multi-disciplinary team to facilitate care.Provide clients and families with education regarding psychiatric and behavioral health conditions and related services.Identify areas of need and make appropriate referrals to ImCal programs and/or community services that best meet those needs.Evaluate, monitor, and document progress in treatment.Conduct transition and discharge planning.Maintain required documentation on individuals served in ImCal’s designated electronic health record.Conduct comprehensive psycho-social assessments which result in accurate diagnoses and functional/interpretive summaries.Use evidence-based screening and diagnostic scales to thoroughly assess for the presence and severity of various disorders and associated risk.Provide crisis screening, assessment, and intervention to individuals who are at an increased risk of harm.Attend clinical unit meetings and in-service trainings.Accept and perform additional duties as assigned by supervisor.
