Berkeley-Charleston-Dorchester Council of Governments (BCDCOG)

is a regional planning agency assisting municipalities within the tri-county region of South Carolina to develop local and regional plans, as well as provide local governments with planning and technical support to improve the quality of life in the region.

Managed by the Berkeley-Charleston-Dorchester Council of Governments, SC Works Trident connects businesses, job seekers, and training providers to create a pathway to employment in our region’s leading industries.

The Business Services Coordinator is a professional who builds effective connections between private businesses and the workforce development system across the region. The intent of this position is to enhance working relationships between the Workforce Development Board and area businesses, economic developers, and the SC Works Trident Career Centers, including the provision of accurate and complete information regarding the availability and eligibility for workforce development business services.

Essential Functions:

Assist with leading the LCC project: Convening Networks, Communications, facilitating meetings, developing meeting agendas, etc., and other duties as assigned.

Promote on-the-job training programs: identify and contact local businesses and employers to solicit participation; conduct on-site meetings to identify employment needs, and to establish, expand, or improve employer utilization of department services; provide information and answers questions; assist in preparing and finalizing contracts; coordinate and facilitate client placement; and provide guidance and direction to employers, clients, and department staff as needed.

Promote the Incumbent Worker Training (IWT) program: assist businesses with completing program applications; review applications for completeness and accuracy; prepare application summaries and submit to the committee for approval; provide information and answers questions regarding contracts, forms, and program requirements and processes; verify reimbursement requests; deliver payment to businesses, and obtain closing documentation.

Partner with business and industry leaders to develop recruitment, retention, and training strategies that align with business needs.

Provide leadership and direction of staff support and resources to ensure successful project deliverables of workforce services contracts.

Partner with the Project Director to identify system and process improvement opportunities that build organizational capacity.

Identify potential business development opportunities and referral sources to achieve increased job placement levels.

Enhance organization visibility and brand through professional networks and organizations that foster collaborative partnerships.

Gain an understanding of key business initiatives, performance evaluations, and budget resources to ensure implementation and delivery of services.

Coordinate networking and strategic recruitment initiatives to support business customers and connect job seekers to employment opportunities.

Demonstrate sound judgment in ensuring compliance and administering policies and procedures.

Serve on work groups and manage special projects and assignments as required.

Provide effective training and support and supervise staff performance.

Requires a Bachelor’s Degree and three years of experience in workforce development or related business model.
