Department DescriptionUniversity Police and Security Services is the UW-Stevens Point’s law enforcement authority, operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. JOB DETAILS:Position SummaryThis is a sworn law enforcement management position and is responsible for the leadership, planning, direction, operations and management of Police & Security Services, Emergency Management and the Parking Services units at UWSP. These units have a combined budget of approximately 2 million dollars. Duties include policy and budget development and management, higher education policing, security services, police dispatch, administration of building access controls and surveillance camera programs, parking operations and supervision, lot maintenance and construction, hiring, training, supervision, and evaluation of personnel. The position is also responsible for Emergency Management and is the incident commander for the Emergency Operations Center. This position is also the Clery Compliance officer. Duties include engaging with the UWSP administration, campus partners, and the Stevens Point/Portage County community around public safety issues. The position is expected to build positive and collaborative working relationships with local, state, federal and UW System public safety agencies as well as the Portage County District Attorneys Office. Provide leadership during emergencies and times of crisis.
QUALIFICATIONS:Required Qualifications
Requires certification as a Law Enforcement Officer in the State of Wisconsin and must be able to perform all competencies required by the Wisconsin Department of Justice, Training and Standards Bureau to maintain certification.
Bachelors degree or higher in criminal justice or a related field.
Minimum 10 years continuous, full-time law enforcement experience.
Minimum five years in a supervisory position (Sergeant rank or above).
Knowledge of federal, state laws and UW System rules.
Knowledge of current investigatory techniques and procedures.
Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's Degree.
Completion of advanced law enforcement executive training (i.e. FBI National Academy, CPM, LPO).

Terms of EmploymentThis is a limited position, exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act. Limited appointees serve at the pleasure of the appointing authority and are subject to Chapter UWS 15, Wisconsin Administrative Code, Wisconsin Statutes, Sections. 36.17, and UW System UPG #3.
Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Must successfully pass a full background investigation, physical, drug testing and psychological examinations. Must be a certified Police Officer by the State of Wisconsin through prior Wisconsin certification or reciprocity from another state; qualify annually on the Wisconsin Department of Justice Handgun Qualification Course; must be able to obtain a Wisconsin driver’s license within three months of hire. Employment will require questions regarding sexual violence and sexual harassment.
The successful applicant will be responsible for ensuring eligibility for employment in the United States on or before the effective date of the appointment. University sponsorship is not available for this position.
