Starting wage dependent upon qualifications. Neosho County is an Equal Opportunity Employer.JOB SUMMARYThe job duties of the Noxious Weed Supervisor include fulfilling the state laws on noxious weed control and the household hazardous waste/agricultural chemical program (HHW/AGCHEM); effectively supervising the department and all of the programs; working with citizens, private industry, and other municipalities on noxious weed problems; enforcing the Kansas Noxious Weed Control Act; and providing responsive, courteous, and efficient service to County residents and the general public. Performs other duties as assigned.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESThe duties described below are indicative of what the Noxious Weed Supervisor might be asked to perform. This job description incorporates any County resolutions for the position of Noxious Weed Supervisor:Administrative Tasks:
Maintains records on all work performed. Gathers data and information for required state and federal organization reports. Maintains visual and analytical evaluations. Prepares non-compliance notices. Attends training sessions on new chemicals, label changes, procedures, and regulations concerning pesticide use. Orders parts and supplies. Approves all division vouchers. Prepares reports for required state and federal organizations. Purchases chemicals and maintains chemical inventory. Educates the public through written promotion and public presentations regarding recycling and noxious weed control.Pesticide Application:
Works with farmers, townships, and cities on weed problems and noxious weed eradication. Prepares chemical and pesticide solutions. Sprays roadside for noxious weeds.Chemical Handling:
Loads and unloads chemicals and segregates HHW/AGCHEM products by SDS categories.SKILLS AND ABILITIESKnowledge of state noxious weed laws, pesticides, chemicals, and their application.Knowledge of calibrating equipment and equipment maintenance.Ability to read, understand, and analyze label recommendations.Ability to operate a spray truck, spray equipment, and other related equipment.Ability to maintain a professional demeanor when dealing with the public.Ability to interpret and implement local policies and procedures; written instructions, general correspondence, Federal, State, and local regulations, safety manuals, operating and repair manuals, warning labels, etc.EQUIPMENT KNOWLEDGE REQUIREDAbility to operate a spray truck, spray equipment, and other related equipment.Ability to use GPS and GIS data relating to county landmarks, roads, etc.Other equipment as required.The Neosho County Weed Department enforces the Kansas Noxious Weed Law K.S.A. 2-1314 et seq. The department is responsible for controlling every noxious weed in Neosho County and enforcing noxious weed control on private and public property. The department inspects properties for noxious weeds and maintains a warehouse to provide cost-shared herbicide controls and rental equipment to landowners. It is also responsible for controlling noxious weed infestations on county-owned property and right-of-way.These specifications should not be interpreted as all-inclusive.
