Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience; the budget for the position; and the application of fair, equitable, and consistent pay practices at the University. The full salary range for this position is $85,400 to $156,800 /year. The budgeted salary range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $85,400 to $90,000 /year.

Department Marketing Statement:

Successful teaching and learning entail active exchange between teachers and learners. Office of Teaching and Learning units support this idea by helping faculty and students learn how to identify, describe, and participate in communities of learners. Define and understand how and why knowledge is created within different contexts, whether academic courses, workplaces, or other sites beyond the university. Use feedback, assessment, and evaluations to refine and improve teaching and learning.

Brief Summary of Job Duties:

Under the direction of the Associate Vice Chancellor for Teaching and Learning, the Strategic Analyst is responsible for strategic planning, project management, and assessment expertise for strategic academic initiatives and programming. Assists in the planning and organization of the administrative and programmatic agenda for the Office of Teaching and Learning (OTL), including coordination of campus-wide initiatives and educational programming, strategic planning and communications, campus and community collaborations, and analytical and evaluation projects such as campus surveys. Serves as a central point in helping to analyze and implement evidence- and data-driven strategies for improving teaching and learning across campus. Is a member of the OTL management team. Supports the AVC in matters of program development and policy implementation, program evaluation and assessment, and implementation and assessment of tools and technologies necessary for an efficient and successful office environment.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.

Exceptional verbal and interpersonal skills.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Understanding of organizational rules and regulations.

Strong organizational skills.

Thorough knowledge of UCSB department and organizational processes, protocols, procedures and policies.

Ability to work independently and as a team member.

Advanced analytical problem solving skills.

4-6 years demonstrated experience in the maintenance of databases, expertise in the use of Word, Excel, and other office software and/or web-based applications.

4-6 years demonstrated proactive approaches to problem-solving with strong decision-making capability.

4-6 years working in higher education.

Preferred Qualifications:

4-6 years demonstrated proactive approaches to higher education analysis activity.

4-6 years experience with effective communication in academic context.

Job Functions and Percentages of Time:

55% Project Management and Data Support - Develops detailed project plans including goals, deliverables, budget, and timelines working closely with the Associate Vice Chancellor, other stakeholders and implementation team members. Establishes metrics to determine the completeness and effectiveness of projects. Manages projects independently, develops detailed project plans, and manages projects related to faculty professional learning; integration of data into teaching, learning, and assessment; and integration of OTL functions within and across OTL units. Provides project coordination support by compiling information from multiple sources; tracking timelines; monitoring the progress of action plans and items; coordinating resources and materials and updating project databases. Conducts research and compiles information and data related to OTL’s scope, which includes equitable teaching and learning. For instance, might conduct research and compile information and data on UCSB and UC policies related to specific pedagogical practices or assessments. Creates graphic and audio-visual materials using PowerPoint/Internet for use in presentations by the Office of Teaching and Learning leaders to administrators and stakeholder groups. Composes draft presentations on issues related to OTL issues, i.e., issues related to teaching, learning, and assessment for a wide variety of purposes. Presentations may be to share information or data with stakeholders or to demonstrate the results of OTL assessments, among other purposes. Reviews, analyzes, and interprets administrative policies related to teaching, learning, assessment, and academic equity. Assists in the post-implementation analysis to determine the need for further enhancements, finer distinctions, and/or additional process/policy components. As necessary, assists with administrative management of projects. Ensures timely scheduling of project-related meetings, compiles expenses, and completes other administrative activities associated with OTL projects. Provides consulting on course and institutional data related to teaching and learning to inform the OTL’s strategic planning, decision making, and strategic actions in order to support the campus’s teaching and learning mission.

20% Special Initiatives Support - Helps to implement the strategic framework of special initiatives and collaborates with stakeholders and, if applicable, donors. Assists the AVC with communication and strategic oversight of all initiatives, including developing prospectus plans, creating reports, and reporting to stakeholders. Works with the AVC to ensure the development and maintenance of strong working relationships with, and among other units, including but not limited to the Division of Humanities and Fine Arts, Graduate Division, Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities, institutional research and planning, the Office of Admissions, and other units responsible for academic preparation and outreach.

20% Communication Analysis and Coordination - Helps to coordinate and support analysis of and communication about OTL projects across OTL units. Tracks synthesizes, and organizes communication regarding OTL team projects, providing guidance regarding projects based on ongoing analysis. Draws on available campus and UCOP data to inform analyses and assists OTL with communication about evidence- and data-based practices. Facilitates communication across OTL units and produces and reviews communication for a variety of audiences as necessary.

5% Policy Analysis - Creates analyses of policies related to OTL initiatives as necessary. Locates existing policies and works with the AVC to create briefings regarding policy changes and consequences of changes to a variety of audiences.
