Looking for a Senior Project Manager (SPM)

Build Commercial Construction, LLC (Buildcc), a leading and fast-growing construction firm, is looking for a Senior Project Manager to join our team and grow with us. The right candidate for this position is an individual who has extensive experience in management and leadership, project management, particularly in overseeing large-scale construction projects.

The primary responsibility of this individual is to be a great leader of people, a great manager of projects, a good project manager themselves, and is great at mentoring and training a team of project managers to become excellent project managers individually and as a team.

This position offers a competitive compensation and benefits. It is a full-time, in-person position located at our Baton Rouge office. Candidates that live in Lafayette or New Orleans are welcome to apply with the commitment of being in-person at our Baton Rouge office 2-3 days per week.

Brief Description of the Position

To be successful, this will spend approximately 40% of their time managing projects, modeling to the other project managers how to manage projects well, and being a great role-model who exemplifies by example how to do great project management. This person will have 2 project managers that report up to this position, with the goal of growing that number of project managers to 5 over the next 3-5 years.

This person has to be good at developing a team, retaining them, helping them to grow, standardizing procedures and processes, and onboarding additional project managers to grow that department.

This position plays a key role in the success of project administration and execution. You will serve as the project liaison to the owner and design team on larger projects, while also mentoring other Project Managers within Buildcc on smaller projects. You will work closely with the VP of Operations to ensure financial, scheduling, and staffing forecasts are proactively managed.

Your responsibilities will include overseeing the project management department, ensuring adherence to departmental goals aligned with company objectives, and representing BCC in client and trade partner meetings. The key areas of your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Project management process adherence, documentation, training, and accountability.

Collaboration with engineers, architects, and construction crews to ensure project success.

Leadership and mentorship of project managers, project engineers, and administrative teams.

Management of departmental software, workflow sequencing, and scheduling oversight.

Strategic partnership collaboration with key subcontractors, vendors, engineers, architects, and clients.

Oversight of project financials, including budget status, billing, and staffing timelines.

The Key Measurements of Performance

Capable of managing 3 projects or $20M in volume.

All project buyout is to be complete within 6 weeks of the handover meeting

All Submittals are to be complete within the first 30% of the project schedule

On-going aligned communication with Operations and Preconstruction teams

Day-to-Day Expectations of this Position

Working Conditions -

you will spend 70% of your time in the office and 30% on-site, although this ratio may vary during critical phases of a project. Flexibility is required, as the role often demands unusual work hours to meet project deadlines and team needs.

Travel Requirements -

travel is an integral part of this position, involving visits to project sites, client offices, and other relevant locations. While most travel is within driving distance, occasional air travel may be necessary for certain projects or client meetings.

The Requirements of a Great Candidate

Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field, with 10+ years of experience in project management, particularly in large-scale construction projects.

Proven ability to manage multiple projects or a per project volume of $20M.

Strong understanding of construction processes, including buyout, submittals, RFIs, and change orders.

Excellent communication skills, with the ability to represent Buildcc positively in front of clients, potential clients, design teams, and trade partners.

Experience with public bid project delivery

Experience in overseeing project financials, ensuring accurate job costs, and managing project schedules.

Ability to mentor and lead a team, providing guidance and support to ensure project success.

Proficient in using construction management software and tools.

Willingness to travel to project sites and attend meetings as required.

What Buildcc Offers

Starting salary is $120,000, or higher based on experience.

Year End Bonus compensation is based on the Bonus Calculation Scorecard (to be reviewed with you by the Vice President of Operations). Maximum bonus potential of 15% of salary
