About the role

The Assistant Director of Engineering supports the Director of Engineering in managing a team of Engineering and Maintenance specialists responsible for all engineering operations to ensure the safety and comfort of guests, residents and employees. This position is essential to the longevity of all equipment and the aesthetic nature of the property, to include electrical, plumbing, steam, gas, life and fire safety, HVAC refrigeration, interior, paint, and decorating. The Assistant Director of Engineering should embody the role by projecting a professional and competent image: Service to our internal and external guests in a friendly, outgoing manner while maintaining timelines, cleanliness, and efficiency.

What you will do

Supports the administrative and operational functions of the Engineering department.

Performs the day-to-day routine maintenance of the building utilizing their maintenance staff in a leadership role in line with Engineering Policies and Procedures.

Ensure proper execution of work order/request system and those items are followed up on when necessary.

Assist in the hiring, training, supervision, scheduling, and evaluation of performance and planning the activities of maintenance team including making spot checks daily.

Implement preventive maintenance schedules, policies, and rules to ensure an efficient department.

Maintain logs on the maintenance record and inspections.

Maintain logs on movement of stock items and tools and monitor the distribution of items.

Ensure that meter readings are taken daily on heat, light and review information to evaluate consumption.

Support the energy conservation program allowing the hotel to meet its annual budget targets.

Maintain close working relations with residents, hotel guests, employees, and vendors.

Maintain close working relations with hotel contractors who furnish reliable 24-hour emergency service.

Supervise all building repairs done by outside vendors.

Prepare requisitions for purchase and work orders and liaise effectively with the Director of Purchasing.

Observes all safety standards and participates in the Company’s efforts to provide a safe work environment.

Organizes time effectively and successfully balances the competing demands of multiple projects.

What you bring

At least

2

years of management experience in Engineering, preferably in a luxury hotel or resort. Background in any Engineering field: Mechanical, Electrical, Facility Management, or equivalent.

Excellent personal presentation and interpersonal skills.

Extensive knowledge of

blueprints, wiring diagrams, and hydraulics.

Strong time management skills: ability to multi-task, set priorities, and adjust to changing conditions. Proven project management skills. Willing to work in a fast-paced environment.

Ability to operate all computer equipment necessary to perform the job; knowledge of

HotSOS

preferred/is a plus.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work closely with other departments and communicate clearly and effectively with colleagues and guests. Ability to proficiently read, write, and communicate in English.

This position requires the flexibility to work a diverse schedule encompassing days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
