Are you passionate about creating a safe and healthy environment? San Diego State University (SDSU) is looking for a dedicated Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) Specialist to join our dynamic team.

Key Responsibilities:

Industrial Hygiene & Occupational Safety: Conduct water intrusion/mold assessments, indoor air quality evaluations, and manage asbestos, lead, and crystalline silica programs.

Exposure Monitoring: Oversee chemical and noise exposure assessments to ensure a safe campus environment.

Program Support: Assist with medical surveillance, safety training, job hazard assessments, workshop safety inspections, and personal protective equipment management.

Collaborative Efforts:

Policy Development: Work closely with EH&S staff to develop and implement policies, procedures, and training programs.

Compliance Assurance: Help assess and ensure campus compliance with federal, state, and local health and safety regulations.

Position Information

Full-time, at-will role, offering comprehensive benefits.

Position is designated exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation.

The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health or Sciences, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering or STEM related field, or equivalent education and experience

A minimum of three years of experience in industrial hygiene, environmental control, occupational safety, or other general health and safety disciplines

Key Qualifications

Experience performing industrial hygiene evaluations, indoor air quality, mold and asbestos evaluations, and personal protective equipment recommendations.

Working knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations including but not limited to Cal/OSHA CCR Title 8 Regulations and OSHA CFR Title 29 Part 1910

Licenses and Certifications

May be obtained within one year of employment:

Industrial Hygiene Credentials

Certifications that include training in exposure assessments, hazard assessments, and occupational safety

Compensation and Benefits

San Diego State University will offer a competitive salary based on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate. San Diego State University also offers a rich benefits package that includes:

Anticipated hiring range: $76,000 - $80,000 annually.
