Job Summary

The Association is seeking a

Chief Operating Officer (COO)

to join our team in

Elkridge, MD . Reporting to the

President/Chief Executive Officer (CEO),

the COO will be responsible for administrative and financial operations and shaping and delivering the strategic imperatives of the organization. The role works closely with the entire executive leadership team to support their work and fulfill the organization’s mission.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Strategy, Vision, and Leadership

As a member of the Executive Staff, contribute to the development of MHA’s strategic plan, goals, and objectives as well as the overall management of the organization.

Identify, develop, and execute action plans to improve operations, meet Association-wide goals, and optimize organizational culture and structure.

Lead cross functional teams to promote the advancement of Association initiatives and goals.

Assist CEO on special projects by providing project management skills and leadership.

Maintain continuous lines of communication, keeping the CEO informed of all critical issues.

Oversee annual goal setting processes in partnership with the CEO.

Operations

Lead Finance, Strategic Analytics, Human Resources, Information Technology, and Facilities.

Implement and maintain an appropriate system of policies, internal controls, and standard operating procedures.

Develop and implement risk management strategies to protect the organization’s assets and ensure compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements.

Oversee financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting accounts payable, payroll, and financial analysis.

In collaboration with the Controller, ensure accuracy and completeness of financial records and reports, ensure compliance with all financial reporting and regulatory requirements, and oversee the completion of annual audits and filings.

Oversee and prioritize the work of Strategic Analytics to ensure timely and accurate data reporting.

Oversee Human Resources functions, including regular review and updates of associate handbook and policies and procedures.

Oversee talent acquisition, development, and retention strategies to build a skilled and motivated team.

Oversee associate benefits including healthcare, insurance, and retirement benefits.

Ensure compliance with all federal and state labor laws and employment practices.

Ensure staff members receive timely and appropriate training and development.

Oversee processes for staff performance evaluations and compensation review.

Provide high level guidance to Executive leaders around organizational development and process improvements.

Oversee physical facilities and assets.

Work with IT team and IT consultants to develop and implement new technologies that best meet the needs of the organization.

Oversee the budget and inventory process for all IT assets.

Identify, select, and collaborate with key consultants and advisors.

Consult with legal counsel, including review and execution of new and existing contracts.

Education and Experience

Master’s degree or equivalent work experience in a related field, healthcare and business administration preferred.

A minimum of 15 years of related business experience, with 7 years or more at the Vice President level or higher. Experience in nonprofit sector preferred.

Qualifications

Proven history of successful financial management of an organization.

Ability to effectively build organization and staff capacity, develop a workforce and the process which ensures the organization runs smoothly.

Exceptional capacity for managing and leading people

Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, strategic thinking, and vision.

Outstanding interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills and demonstrated professional and effective working relationships.
