Senior Firmware Engineer

Zoox is looking for an embedded software engineer to join its Advanced Hardware Engineering team. In this role, you will be involved in a wide variety of coding at all levels of the embedded software stack, including drivers, middleware, libraries, and applications. You will often be the first person to bring up custom hardware and integrate it with Zoox's software stack.This role involves both writing code running 'bare-metal' as well as code running on Linux. As an embedded software engineer, you should be passionate about developing production-quality code and designing a product that meets the high safety requirements needed for autonomous driving. You will be interfacing closely with the electrical, mechanical, and optical engineers designing the hardware, as well as the Perception team for the evaluation of sensors and the Core team for writing and bringing up hardware drivers.

BS / MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or similar degree with 5+ years of relevant experienceStrong background in C / C++ programming for embedded Linux or micro-controllersExperience using measurement equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, and logic analyzers to debug codeExperience with low-level interfaces such as I2C, SPI, CAN, RS232, EthernetAbility to efficiently collaborate with multidisciplinary program members to achieve project goals, and contribute positively to the engineering community environmentBonus Qualifications
Experience implementing safety-critical, high reliability, or fault-tolerant softwareExperience with real-time operating systems (POSIX, QNX, FreeRTOS)Deep understanding of Linux and its internals, the device tree, and U-BootFamiliarity with unit testing, integration testing, regression testing, and HIL testingExperience with ARM or Infineon TriCore architecturesExperience working with FPGAsDigital Signal Processing experienceBash or Python scripting
CompensationThere are three major components to compensation for this position: salary, Amazon Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), and Zoox Stock Appreciation Rights. The salary range for this position is $170,000 to $240,000. A sign-on bonus may be offered as part of the compensation package. Compensation will vary based on geographic location and level. Leveling, as well as positioning within a level, is determined by a range of factors, including, but not limited to, a candidate's relevant years of experience, domain knowledge, and interview performance.
