JOB DESCRIPTION—GENERAL MANAGER

Reports to: Board of Directors

Job Classification: Salary Exempt

Date: September 2024

Salary and Benefits

Salary range of $65,000.00 - $75,000.00 commensurate with experience and qualifications

Supervises/Direct Reports: Golf Professional, Director of Member Relations & Events, Front of House Manager, Pool Manager and Bookkeeper

Preferred Education and/or Experience:

Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university; Hospitality Management major preferred.

Experience as a Clubhouse Manager or Assistant General Manager preferred.

Substantial private club or hospitality industry experience with management and supervisory experience and progressive professional advancement.

Management of complex capital projects required.

Experience working with volunteer committees, boards, and/or stakeholder groups.

Maintains membership with the Club Managers Association of America (CMAA) and other professional associations.

Availability to attend conferences, workshops and meetings outside of the typical work day or expected work calendar (e.g., CMAA’s World Conference and Club Business Expo and CMAA chapter meetings) to keep abreast of current information and developments in the field to enhance his or her value and quality of services to the members.

Job Summary

The General Manager oversees the comprehensive operations and strategic development of the Franklin County Country Club, with a focus on elevating the member experience across the Pro-Shop, Clubhouse, and Pool facilities. This role demands a dynamic leader capable of fostering strong relationships among the Board of Directors, members, guests, employees, and the broader community.

Maintain a high level of engagement with membership including promoting collaboration, service focus, and conflict resolution.

Lead strategic planning in terms of operational objectives, long and short-term objectives that support the club’s vision, mission and core values.

Financial aptitude commensurate with executive duties.

Job Duties:

Operational Management

Lead daily operations across all club facilities, including the front of house, kitchen, pool, golf operations, and pro shop, ensuring seamless and efficient service delivery.

Oversee the general maintenance of the Clubhouse, Pool and FCCC grounds other than the golf course and driving range.

Manage the Golf function of the club with the assistance of the Golf Pro and golf pros’ staff.

Manage the Clubhouse and 19th Hole function of the club with the assistance of the Front of House Manager and the Director of Member Relations & Events.

Manage the Pool function of the club with the assistance of the Pool Manager.

Oversees the care and maintenance of all the club’s physical assets and facilities (i.e., coordinate with vendors, contractors, and maintenance personnel to address repairs, renovations, and facility upgrades as needed).

Assist the House Committee in maintaining an up-to-date version of the House Rules.

Conduct Request for Proposals (RFP’s) for third-party service providers when required by the Board of Directors.

Consistently assure that the club is operated in accordance with all applicable local, state and federal laws.

Properly manage all aspects of the club’s activities to ensure and maintain the quality of products and services provided by the club.

Coordinate inter- and intra-committee activities to set policies and strategies to achieve the club’s goals and objectives.

Perform other duties and functions as the club board may direct that are consistent with this job description.

Financial Management

Develop annual budget for FCCC with the assistance of the Course Superintendent and Clubhouse staff to be presented to Board of Directors.

Authorize and approve operating expenditures within the limits established in the Board approved annual budget.

Attend and present General Manager's report at monthly Board meetings.

Member Services/Membership and Marketing

Lead membership recruitment efforts to achieve the goals of the Board of Directors. Develop and implement strategies to enhance membership engagement and retention, ensuring a member satisfaction ratings set forth by the board or higher as measured by regular surveys.

Welcome new club members; “meet and greet” all club members as practical during their visits to the club. Develop ongoing dialogue and rapport with members through recognition, communication and follow-through.

Identify new ways with the help of management team for members and guests to increase club usage, member satisfaction, and membership retention.

Review and initiate programs to provide members with a variety of popular events.

Actively engage with members to solicit feedback, address concerns, and continuously improve services and amenities.

Ensure all Golf, Clubhouse and Pool operations are member driven and executed within the annually approved budget.

Responsible for maintaining high level of member satisfaction.

Participate in selected community activities to enhance the prestige of the club; broaden the scope of the club’s operation by fulfilling the public obligations of the club as a participating member of the community.

Strong understanding of excellent dining attributes and other food and beverage experiences for the members and guests.

Staff Management

Recognize, respect, and support the contributions of key managers and staff. Manage the Human Resources function of the club, setting clear expectations and goals while holding departments accountable for maintaining high standards of performance, respect, and professionalism.

Set standards of training, performance and execution in all departments working as necessary with the managers directly responsible for these departments and ensure that they are consistently maintained. Must have a passion for teaching and training.

Work with subordinate department heads to schedule, supervise and direct the work of all club employees; confer with them about personnel-related matters including compensation, job changes and performance evaluation.

Schedule and lead mandatory weekly staff meetings to openly communicate and discuss weekly events, address concerns, and ways to improve.

Serve as liaison between all management staff and the board to minimize labor costs and maximize efficiency of house and pool operations. Provide written documentation to the Board of Directors each month of key Clubhouse, Pro Shop and Kitchen activities and profit/loss from operations.

Develop, maintain and disseminate a basic management philosophy to guide all club personnel toward optimal operating results, employee morale and member satisfaction.

Strategic Planning

Serve on the Long-Range Planning Committee and assist in the planning, development and maintenance of a master plan of major and minor improvements at FCCC.

Prepare reports and other support material for committee and board use.

Oversee risk management programs to ensure that adequate safety measures are in place to protect members, employees and club assets.

Possess clear vision and direction to ensure long-term planning and success of the club and its membership.

Meetings to attend:

Monthly Board meeting

Subcommittee meetings- Membership, Entertainment, Finance, House, Rules/Bylaws, Long Range Planning, others as indicated by the Board of Directors.
