Position Summary

PH at THR Arlington is seeking an ambitious and energetic Chief Nursing Officer/Director of Nursing for an all skilled nursing facility located inside of a hospital. Our facility is looking for a leader that can excel in a fast-paced environment and emphasize best-in-class patient experience and customer service. The facility is a 49 bed all skilled environment with no long-term care.

The CNO/DON plans, organizes, develops, and directs the overall operation of the Nursing department within his/her designated facility in order to ensure the highest degree of quality customer care. CNO will participate in the achievement of the facility nursing program by providing expertise as an educator, consultant, facilitator, researcher, change agent, and leader. CNO will serve as the primary role model of professional behavior and promote a professional nursing climate.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Assures nursing organizational structure supports clinical and administrative standards and goals that will enable the facility to achieve its mission and ongoing survey readiness and regulatory compliance.

Organizes, directs, and administers the nursing department service and customer satisfaction in order to provide the level of care required by current federal, state, and other regulations nursing standards.

Remains knowledgeable about the facility customers and their conditions through mechanisms such as making daily rounds and discussions with DOC and Unit Managers. CNO will promote customer-centered care with the nursing team.

Providing leadership to nursing management team that will enroll their support, create ownership of goals and have them actively participate in decisions that impact the facility and ensure quality outcomes.

Promotes an environment where customers’ rights are protected and customers are free from abuse and neglect.

Developing organizational customer care programs that describe how nursing care is assessed, delivered, and evaluated.

Establishing standards for nursing practices and maintain authority, accountability, and responsibility for nursing services.

Maintains continuing quality assessment and improvement analysis and evaluation of nursing care delivery and communicates with CEO & CCO on the activities/issues of nursing customer service items.

Plans and recommends to CEO & CCO new units or equipment, or modification thereto, needed to provide customer care.

Developing and managing the nursing services budget and ensuring sufficient number of qualified staff to assess customer needs.

Assures effective recruitment and retention plans exist and participates in their implementation.

Guiding, implementing, and ensuring achievement of nursing goals and facilitating the completion of departmental team member performance reviews.

Attending meetings as needed, to include care planning and other mandatory meetings to help promote, develop, and foster a positive work environment.

Drive excellent communication with nursing team, Unit Managers, and other departments; holds meetings as needed to review goals and address areas of improvement opportunity.

Recommends the modification, addition, or deletion of personnel policies to ensure reasonable hours and acceptable working conditions to provide excellent customer care and satisfaction.

Encourages and facilitates the professional advancement of team members by affording opportunities for further education and experience.

Recommends, supports, and participates in education services, programs of education, and training, including orientation of new nursing team members.

Ensures clinical competency of all nursing staff. Oversees Staff Educator to assure clinical competencies during the hiring process and annually in accordance with state and federal regulations.

Participates and/or leads committees or workgroups as deemed necessary and/or requested by Administration.

Communicates and collaborates with the clinical team (Medical Director, Asst. Medical Director, Nurse Practitioners) ancillary and service department.

Required Education/Experience

College/University Degree in Nursing, Healthcare Management, Business, or other related field.

Graduate of accredited School of Nursing.

A minimum of seven (7) years of progressive nursing experience.

A minimum of four (4) years’ experience in a nursing leadership role.

Required Licenses/Certifications

Valid State Appropriate RN License.

Valid CPR Certification.

Preferred Education/Experience

A minimum of 10 years of progressive nursing experience.

A minimum of seven (7) years’ experience in a nursing leadership role.
