Programmer Analyst I - Children's Research InstituteWhy join Children's Research Institute?Children's Medical Center Research Institute (CRI) is a joint venture of UT Southwestern Medical Center and Children's Medical Center Dallas, the flagship hospital of Children's Health. CRI is home to an interdisciplinary group of scientists and physicians working to address fundamental scientific questions related to the biological basis of disease. CRI seeks breakthroughs that change scientific fields and yield new strategies for treating disease. CRI ultimate goal is to cure people who would not be cured otherwise. Under the direction of Sean J. Morrison, Ph.D., CRI's scientists and physicians are working at the interface of regenerative medicine, cancer biology and metabolism. CRI has a great opportunity for a Programmer Analyst to gain experience on various types of computational, bioinformatics, and biostatistical projects.The ideal person while work closely with a Bioinformaticist in the Morrison Laboratory.Department QualificationsLinux command-line operations, shell and awk scripting.

Workflow development using YAML or equivalent tools.

Programming language: R with R Shiny

Web development using the Apache web server, Django framework and SQLite database or equivalent tools

An interest in biomedical research, particularly stem cells and cancer.

Preferred Experience

Experience in using a computer cluster/cloud for parallel computing.

Experience in bioinformatic/biostatistical data analysis.

Experience in biomedical research.

Experience and Education

High school graduation or GED plus successful completion of vocational training in computer programming and three (3) years experience in computer operation and/or programming, including at least one (1) year experience in computer programming.

College degree in related field may be used in lieu of experience.

Job Duties

Defines and analyzes problems of limited complexity or assists user personnel in analyzing and defining such problems for computer solutions.

Determines methods or approaches; creates designs of computer system to accomplish job or selects or modifies existing programs program systems; decides flow of data or information through system.

Documents procedures for system, computer programmers, and users. Assists in implementation of systems and job streams.

Develops efficient, fast programming techniques and performs moderately complex programming and debugging.

Assists in estimating resources required for project and planning purposes.

Performs other duties as assigned.
