Zoo Miami is currently seeking an exceptional individual looking to enhance the education and interpretation field at a high-performing AZA institution. Candidates will supervise a team and provide guest engagement opportunities by being approachable, engaging, and passionate while delivering exceptional guest service.This position reports directly to the Interpretive Programs Manager – Education and Interpretation as well as the Manager – Education and Interpretation. They are responsible for engaging with guests at the various interactive animal program sites to include the Giraffe, Parrot and the Tortoise and Rhino Encounters. Also, provides exemplary guest service experiences to all zoo guests through guest engagement opportunities such as behind-the-scenes tours and public presentations.Responsibilities/Duties

This is professional work in overseeing the overall operations of animal encounters, interpretive experiences, and zoo mascot performers. Provides exceptional guest service through engagement while creating friendly and positive interactions with all guests and co-workers.Supervises, plans, assigns, reports, and reviews the work of subordinate Interpretive Programs Leaders and Interpretive Programs Attendants; schedules work assignments and revises work schedules as needed.Assists with animal diet preparation for encounter sites and as needed to conduct guest interactions.Develops and monitors operational policies and procedures; ensures operations are consistent in-service delivery and have proper procedural checks and balances in place.Researches and assists in the development of new interpretive programs.Inspects and maintains area and equipment; ensures area is safe for zoo guests and staff; assists guests; explains rules and regulations.Conducts training for new or existing staff and volunteers.Makes recommendations regarding hiring, discipline, and promotion of subordinates; authorizes leave; evaluates and rates employee performance.Supervises and supports staff participation in special events, animal encounters and educational presentations, both onsite and through outreach programming.Facilitates guest interactions for interpretive experiences as needed.Performs other related tasks as required.Supportive Functions

Must professionally represent Zoo Miami, PROS and Miami-Dade County at all times and maintain current knowledge of the Zoo and its offerings.Must maintain a positive attitude and be an exceptional team member that can provide support across all departmental functions.Must promote teamwork and facilitate communication and working relationships across all departments.Must be willing to work with a variety of diverse people to provide exceptional guest service.Must remain calm under stressful situations and be able to handle emergency situations as needed.Experience Required

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree. Two years of experience in operations at an attraction, to include supervisory experience, is required. Additional experience may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis. Must be able to work days, nights, weekends and holidays on a varying work schedule. Must possess a driver's license.Preferred Qualifications:

One-year supervisor in an informal education department; Previous experience working with volunteers.Further Comments
