Position DescriptionThe Program Coordinator is responsible for creating welcoming and supportive environments in assigned YMCA programs. Responsibilities include monitoring programs, engaging with members and program member retention activities. Responsibilities also include assisting the Program Director in managing the staff and administrative duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Must be 18 years of age or older
Bachelor's degree in recreation management, physical education or equivalent (preferred)
Prior experience working with youth; organizing sports leagues
Strong written and oral communication skills; knowledge of fundamental sports and age-appropriate motor development skills, as well as rules pertaining to various sports such as (but not limited to) basketball, floor hockey, soccer, volleyball, and flag football; visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency situation
Current CPR/AED/First Aid certification
Responsibilities
In conjunction with the branch leadership team, establish long-term plans for the expansion of programs and services, in harmony with overall YMCA objectives.
Display a positive and enthusiastic attitude and a desire to work with children and their parents, as well as adult athletes, at all times.
Recruit and retain volunteer coaches for the various sports programs.
Set up and clean up each sports league.
Create a welcoming environment in all YMCA program areas taking time to talk to members and enthusiastically greet them by name with a smile and eye contact.
Proactively connect and monitor members to develop, and support the achievement of their goals, and matching members' interests to YMCA programs.
Responsible for building small communities by facilitating connections with and between members.
Assist Members with their questions and monitor activity in assigned program areas.
Monitor program areas to ensure equipment is functioning, and environment is clean.
Respond promptly and courteously to all member complaints, compliments and inquiries while following the appropriate procedures at all times.
Actively interact with members regarding their participation in YMCA programs, Annual Support Campaign and Special Events.
Role model positive interactions with members for staff; provide coaching and feedback to staff when necessary to ensure the best experience for members.
Assist the Program Director in providing staff supervision and training; recommend appropriate staff coaching and discipline to Membership Director when necessary.
Assist Program Director with administrative tasks including but not limited to: staff scheduling, department timesheet monitoring and daily audit reporting.
Other duties as assigned.
