ResponsibilitiesThe Director of Bar Success is an administrative faculty position that will work closely with the Deans for Academic Engagement & Success and Student Advancement, as well as faculty and staff, to provide support and direct programming for students and graduates as they prepare for the bar exam. Develops and implements College-wide academic initiatives to improve bar passage, oversees required data collection and reporting related to bar passage and bar exam performance, and evaluates data to improve programming. Assists with student coaching, student advising, and resource identification and development.

Bar Coaching and Counseling

Develops and implements bar exam preparation programming for students, with particular emphasis on at-risk students and graduates experiencing difficulty with bar exam study, and bar exam re-takers.

Implements individualized study plans for students. Meets with students in their final semester to implement individualized bar exam study plans. Communicates with commercial bar preparation companies to review student data and coordinate student services during each bar administration cycle.

Provides advising to students regarding the bar exam application process. Provides support and advice to those seeking disability-related accommodations on the bar exam and related standardized exams such as the MPRE.

Programming and Curricular Responsibilities

Develops programming specifically designed for students at risk of poor performance on the bar exam.

Develops and coordinates bar preparation workshops for all students, providing information on academic planning and study skills for bar success. Conducts supplemental bar preparation planning.

Develops website content and other communications describing the law school’s bar support program and services. Develops and administers the bar preparation portal on Canvas. Ensures bar success program information is maintained and updated on the law school social media platforms.

Designs and teaches a fundamental legal skills course, as needed.

Meets individually with at-risk students, to advise on study strategies and other resources (and to inform future academic enhancement programs).

Follows scholarship and developments regarding legal pedagogy and the bar exam, assessing the current program regularly and advising the law school administration.

Represents the law school at, and participates in, outside conference and other events organized for and/or by instructional support professionals.

Administrative Support

Assists and supports faculty with the development of academic enrichment initiatives related to the bar exam.

Works with the Associate Dean for Student Advancement and Registrar to prepare Certificate of Dean documents and handle requests for information relating to Character and Fitness from Boards of Bar Examiners.

Additional administrative-related duties as assigned.

Performance Tracking/Data Collection & Reporting

Oversees collection and organization of data related to bar passage, student participation in bar success programming and course offerings, and communicates with commercial bar prep companies to track performance. Tracks ultimate bar passage and first-time test taker data as required by the American Bar Association and the Florida Board of Governors.

Analyzes bar passage data and provides regular reports and recommendations to the administration. Stays abreast of bar exam developments in Florida and nationally, and of developments and/or trends in the delivery of bar support services by law schools.

In addition to preparing students for Florida’s bar examination and its related components, this position is also responsible for maintaining familiarity with national examinations and specific tests in other jurisdictions.

Performs other duties in support of the Bar Success Program and Academic Programs Office as needed.

QualificationsA J.D. degree is required for this position.

Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact successfully with students, alumni, faculty, administrators and external constituents.

Ability to maintain confidentiality pursuant to FERPA and other regulations.

High level of organization, flexibility, and sound judgment.

A demonstrated ability to develop policies and programming.

Proficient technical skills, to include Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) or similar software, Adobe Acrobat or similar software, and social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Preferred Qualifications

Strong knowledge of legal theory, analysis and writing, and other academic skills necessary to succeed on the bar exam, and of fundamental skills preparing law students for the bar exam.

At least two years of experience in law teaching and/or bar preparation, preferably in an in-school bar-preparation program or an academic success program, or commercial bar program involving significant interaction with students.

Experience managing and prioritizing multiple deadlines.

Anticipated Salary RangeAnticipated salary range is $95,000 to negotiable; commensurate experience.
