Essential Job Functions

Develop and implement a comprehensive product assortment strategy aligned with the company's goals, market trends, and customer preferences.Analyze historical sales data, market trends, and customer feedback to identify opportunities for assortment expansion or optimization.Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with current vendors and potential new suppliers, negotiating terms, pricing, and promotional support to achieve favorable buying conditions.Collaborate with vendors to ensure timely delivery, quality control, and compliance with contractual agreements.Lead the creation of purchase plans that balance demand forecasts, inventory levels, and sales targets, considering factors such as seasonality and product lifecycle.Monitor and adjust purchase orders to align with changing market conditions and consumer demand.Oversee inventory levels across various sales channels, working closely with inventory analysts to prevent stockouts and minimize overstock situations.Develop strategies to effectively manage clearance and slow-moving inventory.Collaborate with the merchandise planning, marketing, and e-commerce teams to ensure alignment of buying strategies with overall business objectives.Communicate assortment plans, promotional activities, and product launches to relevant stakeholders.Stay abreast of industry trends, competitor activities, and consumer behavior to inform buying decisions and identify emerging market opportunities.Analyze sales performance and recommend adjustments to product offerings or pricing strategies.Provide mentorship and guidance to junior buying team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and growth.Lead by example in demonstrating effective negotiation skills, vendor relationship management, and strategic decision-making.

Required Skills And Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Business, Merchandising, Supply Chain, or a related field.Proven track record as a successful buyer, with several years of experience in retail procurement, ideally experience with omni-channel buying.Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data, trends, and sales metrics to drive buying decisions.Excellent negotiation skills and experience in vendor relationship management.Proficiency in using procurement software and Microsoft Excel for data analysis.Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.Excellent communication and presentation abilities, both written and verbal.Demonstrated effective cross-functional leadership.In-depth understanding of the retail industry, market dynamics, and consumer behavior.
