Sr. Scientist I, Analytical Development.Codexis is a leading enzyme engineering company leveraging its proprietary CodeEvolver technology platform to discover, develop and enhance novel, high-performance enzymes and other classes of proteins. Codexis enzymes solve for real-world challenges associated with small molecule pharmaceuticals manufacturing and nucleic acid synthesis. The Company is currently developing its proprietary ECO Synthesis platform to enable the scaled manufacture of RNAi therapeutics through an enzymatic route. Codexis enzymes can drive improvements, such as higher yields, reduced energy usage and waste generation, improve efficiency in manufacturing and greater sensitivity in genomic and diagnostic applications.

About the Opportunity:

This role is responsible for leading analytical method development and validation to support Codexis product development and release. This role offers the opportunity to provide technical mentorship to junior colleagues and contribute analytical insights in cross-functional teams to support process development and quality control for our established biocatalyst and emerging RNA therapeutics businesses.This role will be based onsite in Redwood City, CA.

In this role you will be responsible for:

Independently lead the development and validation for analytical methods for activity, purity, content and other quality attributes of pharma enzymes, life sciences enzymes, RNA-based therapeutics and other Codexis products.Develop reliable analytical test methods following rigorous scientific methodology and industry standard application of ICH guidelines.Independently design and conduct physicochemical characterization, forced degradation and analytical studies on Codexis' products to support process development.Perform data processing, evaluation and interpretation of test and experimental data, drawing conclusions based on the results.Prepare test methods, protocols, summary reports and technical documentation.Perform method transfer, qualification and validation in accordance with FDA and ICH guidelines.Act as the Analytical Development SME for project teams by communicating method status, analytical data and resolution of project technical issues.Provide technical oversight of troubleshooting and analytical investigations in cross-functional teams.Mentor and guide junior level scientists and associates.

The essential requirements of the job include:

PhD in Analytical Chemistry, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related discipline with 5+ years' relevant industry experience; or MS or BS with 9-12 years' relevant experience.At least three years of cGMP experience in a regulated lab.Broad hands-on experience with analytical techniques and instrumentations and proven track record in analytical method development and validation, e.g., enzyme kinetics, colorimetric and fluorescent plate-based assays, ELISA, qPCR, UV-Vis, RP-HPLC, IEX-HPLC, SEC, CE, SDS-PAGE, etc.Strong attention to detail and excellent record documentation skills.Sound understanding of ICH Quality Guidelines related to analytical method development/validation, impurities and stability.

Additional experience that would be valuable for this role includes:

Experience working with enzymes and oligonucleotides/nucleic acids.Strong theoretical understanding and extensive hands-on experience with LCMS.

CODEXIS PAY TRANSPARENCY: The anticipated salary range for candidates who will work in Redwood City is $138,500 to $162,000. The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and length of experience within the job, type and length of experience within the industry, education, etc. Codexis is a multi-state employer, and this salary range may not reflect positions that work in other states.
