Who We Are:The Center for Animal Resources and Education (CARE) at Cornell University is a service and a resource to the AAALAC International-accredited Cornell research and teaching community. CARE provides high-quality animal care and veterinary services, and advises and educates researchers, staff, and students on animal experimentation issues while promoting best practices for the responsible use of animals.

What We are Looking For:We are seeking an ACLAM board-certified or ACLAM board eligible veterinarian ready to dive into a world of exciting challenges and endless opportunities. You'll collaborate with an experienced team to provide clinical veterinary care and oversight to a large, diverse AAALAC accredited animal care and use program.

The ideal candidate will:Innovate : Independently lead and collaborate in research projects that advance the science of laboratory animal medicine.Collaborate : Engage in collaborative and independent research projects, fostering a culture of innovation and exploration.Empower : Play a pivotal role in ensuring ethical and responsible animal use practices.Accredit : Assist in maintaining the prestigious AAALAC accreditation of Cornell's animal care and use program.Educate : Share your expertise by providing instruction and training to animal users, veterinary and husbandry staff, veterinary students, and residents in the lab animal medicine program.In addition, you will:Provide health care, including physical examinations, vaccinations, treatment of illnesses, and surgeries to research animals.Conduct routine clinical rounds; diagnose, treat and monitor the progress of sick animals.Advise on research involving animals and collaborate with faculty on animal research projects.Provide instruction to animal husbandry and research staff regarding care and treatment of health conditions.Review IACUC protocols and serve as an alternate to the Attending Veterinarian.Maintain accreditation for Cornell's animal program.Required Qualifications:DVM, VMD, or equivalent degree from an AVMA accredited veterinary school.Three to five years' experience with a wide variety of laboratory animals.Good working knowledge of AWA&R, PHS policy, and The Guide to Care and Use of Laboratory Animals.Desire to teach/instruct/conduct research.Superior verbal/written communication skills.Service-oriented and self-motivated.Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.Licensure to practice veterinary medicine in at least one state or ability to obtain licensure within 6 months.Preferred Qualifications:ACLAM board certified or eligible.PhD, Master's degree or other similar advanced degree.Experience writing grant proposals and conducting research projects.Experience working in a gnotobiotic facility is a plus.At CARE, we celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees.
