Summary/Primary Role:

The

Director, Bulk Truck Procurement

is responsible for leading the strategy and execution of bulk logistics procurement activity across all clients in Odyssey’s Managed Services Group. This role will be a thought leader inside and outside the Odyssey organization as it relates to market awareness/trends, strategies for developing solutions to achieve high rates of return on procurement efforts, proactive approaches for leveraging spend to optimize service, cost, visibility, sustainability, and risk, and LSP (Logistics Service Provider) engagement/management. These outcomes will be achieved, in part, through leadership and development within the procurement organization. The

Director, Bulk Truck Procurement

will streamline the end-to-end bulk truck freight procurement process to enable a nimble organization to rapidly respond to evolving market conditions.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Steer execution of procurement strategies for liquid bulk truck, dry bulk truck, and ISO container freight procurement.

Lead large, bulk freight procurement events across Managed Services clients.

Create network solutions and procurement strategies that deliver cost sufficiently below industry benchmarks while meeting service level commitments.

Lead continuous improvement efforts in the bulk logistics space.

Develop strategic senior-level relationships with key LSPs and define relationship strategy at all levels. Further, coach/manage the business procurement teams in fostering key relationships with LSPs.

Develop annual procurement strategies to lead key stakeholders through freight cost planning.

Responsible to continually develop common carrier capacity that meets the needs of Odyssey and its clients.

Identify and develop excellent working relationships with strategic business stakeholders to gain a comprehensive understanding of business requirements and to support the businesses in achieving margin targets and service performance to drive the best outcomes.

Provide procurement and market perspective to make recommendations to leadership and customers.

Regularly measure KPIs to assess performance against objectives; identify corrective actions should KPIs fall below goal.

Adhere to organizational policies, procedures, and processes to ensure compliance with corporate governance.

Support complex negotiations for major contracts in partnership with Procurement and Management stakeholders in the businesses.

Work closely with Master Data teams to ensure accurate, streamlined and automated delivery of accurate routing data until entry into TMS.

Act as the leading subject matter expert and highest point of escalation within bulk truck freight procurement.

Responsible to monitor overall carrier performance and effectiveness to satisfy client requirements.

Qualifications and Key Skills:

Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Business Administration, Supply Chain or a related field. An advanced degree in business administration is preferred.

Eight or more years of supply chain and/or logistics related experience. Five or more years of bulk transportation related procurement experience (sourcing and contracting, strategic sourcing, category management, and supplier management practices).

Expertise and knowledge of LSP Operations (which includes Financial, Equipment, Mode, Driver issues, geographical radius).

Excellent negotiation, analytical and problem-solving skills.

Proven success in managing a team of people for at least 5 years.

Experience working with a global company with multi-cultural stakeholders.

Excellent ability to prioritize and manage across RFP events and project work.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with all levels of business stakeholders.

Team player who seeks continuous improvement; lean-six sigma green or black belt preferred.

Strong organizational skills to balance and prioritize work.

Strong human relations skills to select, develop, mentor, discipline, and reward employees both locally and remotely.

Up to 20% travel to meet LSP partners and customers will be required.
