Associate Director

, a tenure-track library faculty appointment, with a preferred start date of January 2025. Primary duties include supervision of Access Services and Collection Services departmental operations and personnel; leading the team teaching of the required legal research and responsible lawyering courses for the hybrid (evening) and in-person (day) degree programs; teaching upper-level research courses; planning research instruction in doctrinal courses; meeting promotion and tenure requirements including scholarship and participation in professional activities. Applicant must hold a J.D. and M.L.I.S. or equivalent degree and have law library employment experience. Preference will be given to candidates with supervisory experience.

Basic QualificationsThe Associate Director is a key part of library leadership working under the guidance of, and in collaboration with, the Library Director. The Associate Director is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the library, including the Access Services and Collection Services departments. Responsibilities include dealing with personnel management of library staff; assisting with supervision of library faculty; collection development planning; implementing new technologies; and assuring service excellence in meeting the goals of the law library and law school mission statements.The Associate Director also heads the legal research instruction program; plans, implements and coordinates reference and circulation services including delivery of traditional and electronic reference; coordinates the faculty liaison program; and provides leadership, creativity and vision to promote and enhance teaching, research and library operations.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Coordinates the operations of the library’s Access Services and Collection Services departments; provides guidance to the Circulation Manager and the Head of Collection Services concerning departmental work flows.

Provides daily supervision over personnel in all library departments. Assists Library Director with library faculty personnel matters as well as library faculty mentoring, promotion, and tenure.

Provides leadership for, and participates in, the legal instruction and responsible lawyering course and creates legal research training opportunities for upper-class students, law review members, and other student groups. Implements current instructional methodologies and technologies.

Plans, implements, and participates in all reference programs, including the faculty liaison program, and continuously develops training and outreach programs for faculty and students, generates appropriate statistical reports, and coordinates library tours and training. Provides reference service, by participating in reference duty rotation and overseeing all reference activities.

Responsible for library and law faculty scholarship metrics; assists with collection data for assessment and statistical reports on library functions.

Oversees budgeting and planning for circulation functions including document delivery, interlibrary loan, and reserves. Coordinates with Collection Services on planning and budgeting for technical services functions including digital access projects, cataloging maintenance, and collection maintenance.

Assists in the review and creation of library policies and procedures, and provides guidance to faculty, staff, students, and other library patrons in the application and/or interpretation of library policies.

Provides guidance to Access Services personnel in library public relations, creating exhibits, developing tools for user education such as web resources, research guides, and bibliographies. Oversees maintenance of law library website.

Provides leadership in collection development by evaluating and selecting information resources in all formats and assuring that library resources meet the changing needs of the law school community as well as advances in technology.

Provide leadership for, and administration of, digitization projects. Such projects require coordination across internal library departments and with other Indiana University libraries.

Meet Indiana University (Indianapolis campus) promotion and tenure requirements including scholarship and participation in professional activities.

Administers the library in the Library Director’s absence.

Other duties as assigned by the Library Director.
