JOB TITLE: Bodily Injury Claims Manager
REPORTS TO: Vice President of Claims
OVERVIEW
The Bodily Injury Claims Manager’s primary focus will be to oversee the Bodily Injury Adjuster team and manage our Defense Attorneys, Medical review Companies, and other vendors related to evaluating Bodily Injury claims. Provides direction to adjusters regarding proper investigation and evaluation of claims. The Bodily Injury Claims Manager is responsible for the unit to comply with Texas Department of Insurance Guidelines and Aspen MGA’s claims handling procedures.
Additionally, the Bodily Injury Claims Manager will communicate information to Senior Management and other key members of the claims or underwriting management team as required on claim files that have unusual circumstances and/or excess exposure potential.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Mentor, coach and train claims adjusters on the proper investigation and evaluation of claims.
Handle personnel issues within the unit.
Set performance expectations for all personnel.
Utilize all claims tools provided to properly evaluate liability and extent of damages.
Review claim files above the adjuster’s authority.
Maintain diaries on adjuster’s claims to provide ongoing guidance and oversight.
Provide adjusters ongoing training of the Texas Automobile Insurance policy.
Authorize payment for established damages and/or Loss Adjustment Expenses within your designated authority.
Submit requests for authority on evaluations that exceed your personal, assigned authority.
Ensure all compliance requirements are met in a timely and professional manner and in accordance with guidelines.
Confirm claim files are reserved adequately on all new and existing claims.
Identify and analyze areas that need improvement in the Bodily Injury unit.
Identify individual areas of improvement per employee and develop clear action plans for improvement.
Communicate findings to Senior management team as required or as may be needed on exposures or unusual loss findings.
Identify and evaluate claims indicators of fraud and refer to SIU Team Representatives.
Participate as requested in claims committee meetings.
Communicate with Underwriting any findings that may require a review of the policy for additional premium, coverage adjustment or potential cancellation based on Underwriting Guidelines.
Provide technical expertise regarding injury evaluation and litigation strategy.
Maintain and update the Aspen demand handling guidelines.
Monitor and measure Aspen’s Defense Panel and communicate performance expectations.
Monitor Aspen’s BI settlement trends and identify any areas for improvement.
Identify any trends that negatively affect severity, profitability, cycle time or customer service and provide a clear plan to improve performance.
Provide monthly reports to the Vice President of claims.
Perform Other Duties as may be assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS AND SKILLS
Minimum of three years personal lines non-standard automobile claims management experience.
Minimum of three years’ experience handling Bodily Injury and Litigation claims.
Must possess the ability to analyze data.
Must perform and analyze claims metrics.
Full understanding of, and the ability to apply, comparative negligence.
Familiarity with medical terminology, rules of civil procedure and Texas venues.
Familiarity with the Texas Personal Auto Policy.
Current Texas Property Casualty Adjuster License or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
Understanding and ability to execute and comply with Texas Department of Insurance Guidelines and Requirements as established in the Insurance Code.
Exceptional negotiating skills.
Proficient computer skills with ability to function in all Microsoft Office Programs.
Highly organized.
Ability to multi-task and prioritize successfully in a fast paced, high-volume environment.
Demonstrated ability to exercise good judgement.
Bilingual (English/Spanish) desired.
