The Northwest School is a college-preparatory, co-educational independent school near the heart of downtown Seattle. We offer a rich and challenging program to about 400 students in grades 6 through 12, including international students, many of whom live in our campus dormitory. The Facilities Team at Northwest maintains a one-acre campus comprised of six buildings and multiple outdoor spaces. The team is responsible for general maintenance and repairs around campus, interfacing with vendors, event support, and safety.

The Maintenance Lead reports directly to the Director of Facilities and Transportation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Survey daily work order ticketing system (SchoolDude) and complete each item according to priority/difficulty level and effective time management with high output results.

Perform maintenance tasks with varying degrees of complexity in plumbing, electrical, drywall repair, painting, light bulb replacement, etc.

Troubleshoot/diagnose building, electrical, HVAC, and plumbing issues with solution-based responses.

Clean clogged drains and sewer lines.

Construct simple items such as bookshelves and help with installations and setups of furniture and equipment.

Complete repairs and building improvements.

Coordinate and facilitate vendor activities campus-wide related to preventative maintenance and inspection service agreements.

Move heavy equipment and furniture such as desks, tables, office machines, appliances, and cabinets.

Disarm buildings security systems and unlock doors as part of opening buildings each day.

After-hours emergency response participation when needed.

Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

All candidates must demonstrate a commitment to the school's mission, values, and philosophy, especially related to diversity, equity, and inclusion, environmental sustainability, and global perspective.

A commitment to a learning and working culture where all community members feel seen, valued, and heard.

Strong carpentry, drywall, and painting skills.

Skills in HVAC, plumbing, and electrical up to licensing requirements.

High school diploma or equivalent and five (5) years related maintenance work or a combination of skills and experience sufficient to perform the job's essential duties.

Enjoy working with adolescents, aged 11-18.

An ability to work both independently and as a productive member of a team.

Ability to communicate effectively, both in written and verbal form.

Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

A valid driver's license and clean driving record.

Must have knowledge and ability to use email systems, such as Microsoft Outlook.

Compensation & Benefits:

Salary is highly competitive with top independent schools in the region and commensurate with education and experience. Hourly wage is $32 - $38/hr. depending on experience for 40 hours each week.
