Cultivate new and maintain existing relationships with international, national, and regional employers that support experiential learning and employment for MICA students and alumni, primarily in the fields of art, design + media, and art education.General Purpose:

Provide strategic direction for Employer Relations pertaining to internship and job recruitment of students and alumni at MICA. The Assistant Director contributes to education at MICA through event coordination, program development, and workshop delivery while building and sustaining internal and external partnerships.Major Role Functions:Develop and maintain relationships with employers in the private, nonprofit, entrepreneurial, and government sectors to increase the number of experiential, networking, residency, and employment and internship opportunities available to students and alumni.Develop and refine a Strategic Plan for Employer Relations for MICA and the Career Development team.Expand MICA’s global presence through building and directing Career Development’s international and national travel program, increasing employment opportunities for domestic and international students and alumni.Project management for new department initiatives designed to bolster student, alumni, and employer resources.Serve as liaison between employers and MICA faculty to enhance curriculum based on industry feedback and trends.Initiate connections between employers and faculty to facilitate sponsored projects.Strategically cultivate and broaden MICA's employment and internship opportunity outreach through analysis of current employer data and desired industry connections.Represent Career Development at MICA events including Admission, Advancement, Orientation, Graduation, and ArtWalk events and workshops as assigned.Provide career advising to students and alumni and presentations as needed.Position Responsibilities:Lead students, faculty, and Career Development staff in the employer development process and match opportunities and organizations with student needs.Develop a multi-year employer engagement tracking system, using analysis of employer engagement and student needs to guide Employer Relations strategic planning.Direct MICA's Practice & Pie networking event, Employer Visit Days, The Reviews, industry and alumni panels, and other recruiting activities to strengthen connections between employers, students, and alumni.Work with employers to determine the strengths and challenges of MICA candidates, providing feedback to the CDO and faculty to enhance student outcomes.Advise employers on appropriate recruiting methods based on organizational needs and students’ career interests.Serve on Student Affairs committees and cross-functional teams such as the Industry & Community Partners and Alumni Narratives working groups.Target a selection of employers desiring to hire fine art and design students for site visits and relationship building based on current data analysis of strengths and gaps.Coordinate employer engagement opportunities for faculty and staff.Coordinate with academic departments to provide major-specific internship data and resources to encourage more students to complete internships.Diversify Career Development’s publications to include specific content and resources for international students and alumni.Provide presentations and counseling to students surrounding employer events as needed.Assist with the collection of graduation outcomes and work as part of a team to continually optimize the Center’s career services management system MICAnetwork, powered by 12Twenty.Assist the Advancement and Admission departments at off-campus networking events for alumni and prospective students.Perform other related duties as assigned.Required Essential Skills and Experience:Bachelor’s Degree in related field.Relevant experience should include an emphasis on relationship management, program coordination, and event planning.Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a broad range of constituents with a commitment to meeting the unique needs of students, alumni, employers, colleagues, and external stakeholders.An active commitment to equity in all forms including the ability to create and maintain positive working relationships with people of diverse backgrounds and perspectives.Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative work style with a high level of maturity, professionalism, and diplomacy.Excellent communication, writing, planning, problem-solving, and organizational skills.Appreciation for the arts and an interest in art students and their educational/professional goals.Commitment to professional development and involvement in professional associations.Attention to detail.Proficiency with Google Suite and Microsoft Office and contact management systems.Valued but Not Required Skills and Experience:Master's Degree in Higher Education, Marketing & PR or related field in Art & Design.Reporting to this Position:No direct reports.Physical Demands and Work Environment:The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
