Full-time (40 hours per week), non-exempt, eligible for overtime compensationAlaska Public Media is hiring an Anchorage communities reporter to join its city team and cover the communities and cultures that make up the state’s largest city.Our ideal candidate is eager to dive beyond press releases and meeting agendas, and report enterprise stories that center on the people who call Anchorage home and that reflect the diversity of the city.The Anchorage reporter will join the award-winning team at Alaska Public Media, Anchorage’s NPR and PBS station.Applicants will be expected to provide:A resume.A cover letter that addresses the candidate’s work experience as it relates to all required and preferred qualifications.Up to three stories you reported, along with a few sentences explaining the backstory of each piece.Essential duties and responsibilities:Be curious and let that curiosity drive an ever-growing story list that mixes daily reporting with longer-term pieces.Be adept at listening to underserved communities to help find stories that are important to Anchorage residents.Develop and maintain a network of diverse sources to ensure your reporting reflects all of the people who call the city home.Regularly report and produce engaging stories for broadcast and digital.Collaborate with other Alaska Public Media staff on various news and public affairs projects and initiatives.Serve as the fill-in morning news host.Meet deadlines, abide by AP style and uphold professional journalistic standards.Other duties as assigned.Required qualifications:At least two years reporting experience.Ability to work in a team-based organization.Strong writing and reporting skills, excellent news judgment and a commitment to accurate and ethical journalism.Preferred qualifications:Experience in audio production and a strong grasp of digital journalism, from writing quick and accurate breaking news to taking photographs.Employee expectations:Detail oriented with ability to manage multiple tasks.Flexible, adaptable and proven ability to work in a deadline-driven environment.Must be able to work various hours on occasion, including evenings and weekends to cover major breaking news.Must have access to reliable transportation.Compensation:The salary for this position is $55,400.Full-time employees at Alaska Public Media are eligible for the following benefits:Paid time offHolidays (12 days per year plus one floating holiday)Paid parental leaveRetirement plan with 2% employer matchMedical planVision planLife insuranceHealth Savings Account (HSA)Employee Assistance Program (EAP)Monthly phone stipendLocation:This position is located at Alaska Public Media’s office in Anchorage, with the option to work from home part of the time.How to apply:Interested candidates should apply by uploading their cover letter and resume at
