The Essential Education Experience (E3) is a vital component of Michigan Tech's new general education program, titled Essential Education. These experiences are meant to help prepare our students for an ever-changing, dynamic, and diverse world. These active, hands-on experiences are expected to expand interaction with the greater society (beyond self) and allow for connections among general education courses. These experiences will increase social awareness, global understandings, or cultural competencies through experiential learning. Michigan Tech is looking for a visionary builder to work with the faculty and staff of Michigan Technological University in implementing and further developing what will become a signature component of Michigan Tech's new essential education program.Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Build and sustain a network of community partners for experiential learning opportunities.Collaborate with faculty to develop, implement, and teach new Essential Education Experience (E3) courses through identifying relevant community partner needs.Manage logistics for E3 courses, including but not limited to travel, risk management, financial expenditures.Build and maintain a repository of reference materials related to experiential learning, including:Reflection resources to be utilized by faculty teaching E3 courses, a database of approved experiences, an archive of past experiences.Participate in professional societies and professional development activities to remain well-informed on experiential learning best practices for student learning and program continuous improvement.Develop and implement a plan and communicate opportunities for faculty development in experiential learning, including the promotion and/or coordination of relevant conferences, seminars, calls for grant proposals, etc.Identify areas of need in the community and raise awareness for these needs among faculty for potential course development.Collaborate with relevant offices across campus including the Provost's Office, academic departments, Registrar, Financial Aid, Admissions, Study Abroad, and academic advisors.Oversee expenditures and budgets for E3.Advise students on E3 opportunities and requirements.Maintain web and social media presence to disseminate information about E3.Communicate about class projects and future opportunities.Solicit feedback from partners and students for program improvement.Seek opportunities to develop new scholarship funds or other revenue streams for off-campus E3 programs.Commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and applying them to everyday work. Actively engage in University continuous improvement initiatives.Apply safety-related knowledge, skills, and practices to everyday work.Other duties as assigned.Required Education, Certifications, Licensures

Bachelor's degree or the equivalent combination of education, training, and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired.Required Experience

Minimum of three years of experience with experiential education models and best practices.Required Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities

Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.Strong understanding of the SHAPE (Social sciences, Humanities, and the Arts for People and the Economy/environment) disciplines and how they can be integrated into experiential learning.Knowledge of assessment tools and evaluation strategies for continuous improvement.Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects, services, activities, etc. in a timely and professional manner in a fast-paced and results-oriented environment.Ability to work independently under limited supervision and in teams.Ability to make reasoned administrative and procedural decisions and judgments on sensitive and confidential issues.Demonstrated commitment to contribute to a safe work environment.Work Environment and/or Physical Demand
