Description:

This is a continuous announcement for the Juvenile Justice Specialist 1/2/3 positions.

The Juvenile Justice Specialist 1 (pay grade level PS-105) has a Special Entrance Rate of $1,400.00 biweekly.

The Juvenile Justice Specialist 2 (pay grade level PS-106) has a Special Entrance Rate of $1,504.00 biweekly.

The Juvenile Justice Specialist 3 (pay grade level PS-108) has a Special Entrance Rate of $1,608.80 biweekly.

Juvenile Justice Specialists working at secure care facilities are also eligible to earn $2.00 additional dollars for every regular hour worked.

As part of a Career Progression Group, this vacancy may be filled from this recruitment as a Juvenile Justice Specialist 1, 2, or 3 depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant. The maximum salary for the Juvenile Justice Specialist 3 is $63,024 annually.

NOTE: Prior to an appointment, the selected applicant must take and pass a drug screening test, possess a valid Louisiana Driver's License, and clear a background check.

Minimum Qualifications:

Possession of a high school diploma or GED.

One year of continuous employment in any field of work will substitute for the high school diploma or GED.

Must have attained eighteenth birthday at the time of application.

An applicant who has been convicted of a felony or is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.

In accordance with the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA), an applicant who has been found to have engaged in any form of sexual abuse will be disqualified.

To provide security of youth and assist in application of clinical treatment.

LEVEL OF WORK:

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Close from the Juvenile Specialist 4 and other higher-level officials.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

None.

LOCATION OF WORK:

Office of Juvenile Justice.

JOB DISTINCTIONS:

Differs from Juvenile Specialist 2 by performance of trainee duties for six months.

Examples of Work:

Trains in all protective service duties.

Receives on-the-job training in various areas of the unit by security and treatment personnel.

Maintains locked doors and gates as per facility policy.

Follows facility policies in control and prevention of contraband on grounds.

Monitors youth movement and provides youth count as per facility policy.

Makes security checks of buildings, grounds, fences, doors, and gates.

Follows procedure for searching youth, living quarters, etc.

Maintains security and follows instructions in handling emergency situations.

Institutes security measures when escorting youth inside and outside facility.

Responds to orders to report to duty during unusual occurrences.

Supervises those youth assigned to his/her area.

Assists with all routine clinics, details, and laboratory work for youth.

Accompanies youth to recreational and occupational therapies and all off-site activities.

Participates in treatment team meetings.

Maintains adequate records for each youth in their assigned area.

Creates a safe and sanitary environment for youth.

Participates in educational programs as assigned.

Performs any related duties as assigned.
