Reporting to the Senior Director of Grant Services, the Grants Director identifies, develops, solicits, and stewards grant initiatives at the $100,000 and above level. The position requires developing long-term relationships with prospective government, foundation, and corporate foundation grantors with a capacity of $100,000 and above. The Grants Director will build and manage an active portfolio of 50-75 current and prospective grantors.

Grants Directors are expected to close at least $250K in the first year; $500k in the second year; and $1M+ per year in years three and four. A goal of $2.5M+ per year after year four is expected.

Essential Job Functions

As part of the revenue-producing grants development team, responsible for annual fundraising from government, foundation, and corporate foundation grantors, with a minimum of 30% of annual funding awards to derive from new sources.

Work to identify and cultivate new grantors, create timely and compelling grant applications, and ensure grant proposals align with the strategic priorities and goals of Roper St. Francis Foundation.

Work with internal partners to develop grant proposals and reports that accurately reflect programmatic priorities, needs, results, and lessons learned.

Work in partnership with physicians to staff and conceptualize, prepare, and present funding proposals and other materials necessary to apply for and secure grant awards, including those requiring complex contract negotiations.

Advise and involve Grant Program Managers and leaders in the development of fundable opportunities consistent with RSFH priorities.

Work closely with the Office of Grants staff to coordinate all grant and foundation management activities to include RFP reviews and submissions, proposal development, deadline management, reporting requirements and communication plans. Provide top-quality stewardship to grantors who invest in Roper St. Francis each year.

Work with Office of Grants team to continually update grant policies, processes and procedures to ensure grants compliance and accountability.

Related responsibilities include providing personalized outreach and invitations to relevant events and experiences and coordinating recognition efforts with the communications team.

The position calls for exemplary interpersonal skills, the ability to create strategic and viable grant concepts; and the ability to maintain excellent relationships with granting agencies and foundations and top administrators while representing the mission of the organization with the utmost professionalism, trustworthiness, and commitment.

Must continue annual professional education and training through organizations to include Association of Healthcare Philanthropy, Grants Professionals Association and National Grants Management Association to ensure best practices and regulatory compliance.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

Bachelor’s degree required.

Experience:

Five years of grants management, non-profit development, project management, or related experience required. Experience in a healthcare environment preferred.

Licensure/Certification:

CFRE, GPA and/or NGMA Certification a plus.

Knowledge/Skills:

Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities and work independently with attention to detail. Effective organizational, planning, communication and interpersonal skills; excellent oral and written skills. Ability to attend to detail and ensure accuracy of data. Ability to use personal computers and various word processing and spreadsheet software applications as well as internet resources. Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge database a plus.

Other:

Ability to work independently, but also to function as part of a team and contribute to the goals of the full Foundation staff.
