PD CommunicationsPart TimeJob SummaryResponsible for the general operation of the UCSF Communication Center, which consists of the following: process telephone calls for 911 police, fire medical and non-emergency services; input information into a Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) System; input data into the various Law Enforcement Telecommunications Systems and interpret the printout information once it is obtained; operate a multi-channel radio system under emergency as well as non-emergency circumstances, adhering to FCC rules and regulations in the course of its operation and ability to audibly monitor radio traffic; operate a hand-held two-way radio for communications; maintain various logs; process various alarms; and perform other duties as assigned.Note: This is a limited-term position - one-year duration from the date of hire.Department Description
The UCSF Police Department provides contemporary police services including criminal investigation, community policing, crime prevention and suppression, emergency management, and site security services to a daily population of over 60,000 people at University and contract locations. Founded in 1864, UCSF includes the 107-acre Parnassus campus that is home to graduate professionals in dentistry, medicine, nursing and pharmacy; a graduate division for pre- and postdoctoral scientists; UCSF Medical Center; UCSF Children's Hospitals; and Langley Porter Psychiatric Institute (LPPI). UCSF is considered one of the nation's premier health sciences teaching, training, and research centers. UCSF is the only UC campus dedicated exclusively to the health sciences.Required Qualifications
High School diploma or GED equivalent.Valid California Driver's License with a clean driving record.Effective written and verbal communication.Must be able to work various shifts (days, swings, and midnights) on a rotational basis to include the ability to work on-call assignments and/or overtime as required.Passing Score on POST Entry-level Dispatcher Selection Test Battery before attending the academy.Ability to pass medical and psychological examinations and an extensive background investigation in compliance with California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) standards.Successful completion of California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Public Safety Dispatcher Basic Course.Knowledge of the following:Police Dispatching Procedures including the operation of state-of-the-art Telephone and Radio Systems at the time of appointment.Information Technology, Personal Computers, and related Software Applications.Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) and Records Systems Knowledge of Information Technology.Preferred Qualifications
