Salary:

$9,142 to $14,625 per month (EM-05, Minimum to Maximum).

THIS VACANCY IS A PERMANENT, FULL-TIME POSITION WITH THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY.

The

Corrections Manager III

functions as a warden and is responsible for managing the operations and maintenance of a correctional facility. This includes:Provision of appropriate care, custody, and services to wards/inmates;Development and implementation of security and control plans and procedures;Supervision of educational, vocational training, counseling, recreational, and rehabilitative programs;Ensuring safe and sanitary living conditions, and appropriate medical and food services;Directing maintenance and repair of the facility.

This position is located in the

Institutions Division, Kulani Correctional Facility (KCF), Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.

It serves as the Warden for a small facility, with duties including:Planning, organizing, directing, coordinating, and evaluating correctional activities;Formulating, evaluating, and revising plans, policies, and procedures;Determining budget, staffing, and resource requirements.

Minimum Requirements:LEGAL AUTHORIZATION TO WORK

: The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government to be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.Prerequisite Knowledge and Abilities:A. Knowledge of:Principles and practices of corrections management;Custody, security, and rehabilitation/redirection of inmates;Factors relating to human behavior;The criminal justice system and corrections laws;Principles and practices of supervision and management.

B. Ability to:Manage the operation and maintenance of a correctional facility;Formulate policies and procedures;Analyze problems and identify solutions;Plan, organize, direct, and evaluate the work of others;Prepare clear and concise reports;Deal effectively with the public and inmates;Determine resource requirements and prepare budget requests;Speak effectively with individuals and groups;Act quickly and effectively in emergencies;Establish and maintain cooperative working agreements.

Basic Education:

Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university in sociology, psychology, criminology, penology, criminal justice administration, or a related field.

General Experience:

Two (2) years of responsible professional experience in a criminal justice or related social service program with a focus on rehabilitative services to law offenders.

Specialized Experience:

Three (3) years of professional work experience demonstrating responsibility for direction and coordination of a major component of a correctional facility or program operation.

Managerial Aptitude:

Managerial aptitude may be accepted in lieu of actual experience with strong evidence of necessary abilities.

Other Requirements:

As required by the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA), federal law prohibits hiring those with a history of sexual abuse or harassment in correctional settings.
