Associate Director of Population Sciences

University of Nebraska Medical CenterOmaha, NEFull-time | ScienceThe Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center (FPBCC) at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) seeks an ambitious, dynamic leader to serve as its inaugural Associate Director of Population Sciences (ADPS). As the only NCI-designated cancer center in Nebraska, the FPBCC places scientists and clinicians in collaborative spaces, providing an unparalleled opportunity for researchers to impact the future of cancer prevention and treatment. Working in collaboration with stakeholders across the university and local and regional community leaders, the ADPS will identify and develop a translatable cancer prevention research strategy that improves the health of Nebraskans, built upon a thorough analysis of their health needs and challenges.Reporting to the Director of the Cancer Center, the ADPS will develop a comprehensive vision for population-based research in cancer, expanding upon the FPBCC’s strengths and ability to best serve the diverse patient population in its catchment area. To achieve this, the ADPS will nurture relationships across the Fred and Pamela Buffett Cancer Center, UNMC, and Nebraska Medicine, while strengthening those within the community to facilitate cross-disciplinary research in cancer population sciences throughout the Fred and Pamela Buffett Cancer Center, the University of Nebraska system, and the State of Nebraska. With the resources necessary to recruit several accomplished researchers at varying levels of expertise, this high-priority focus on population health will further advance the Cancer Center’s overall mission of improving the health and well-being of Nebraska’s populations, especially the underserved. The inaugural ADPS will bring a track record of federally funded population-based cancer research and a collaborative leadership style. As a coalition builder who can establish a strong research program, the ADPS will have experience in energizing a coalition of investigators and in attracting, mentoring, and supporting a team of top talent researchers.
