UW-IT provides critical technology support for three campuses, UW Medicine, and research operations around the world.The Project Management Office / Enterprise Project Management Office within UW-IT provides project, program, and portfolio management, tools and infrastructure to support resiliency, enterprise architecture services, and cloud computing to support the UW broadly. The Director of the Project Management Office (PMO) will strategically manage the project portfolio of major projects as well as streamline technical change initiatives to help our organization manage projects in the most effective and efficient manner. This will encompass both working with internal as well as external resources across the UW. The Director will manage a team within UW-IT as well as build Project Management capabilities that will be a resource for the broader University on complex, large scale, highly visible, enterprise-level programs and projects.Position Complexities:The person in this role will help evolve the project management strategy to leverage innovative and tailored approaches that best fit the UW through project management standards and best practices provided by institute guidance including the Project Management Institute (PMI), ITIL, Lead Six Sigma, and International Institute of Business Analysis (IIBA). The Director will assist the PMO staff of senior technical project managers interact with key stakeholders and sponsors with varying degrees of experience with mature project management and work with them to expedite and catalyze the successful completion of major UW initiatives.This position is expected to work across the UW to engage and present to key stakeholders such as Deans, administrators, and various governance boards.REQUIREMENTS:Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Business or related field or equivalent experience.10 years managing cross-functional teams on a variety of small to large complex projects, especially enterprise-wide projects including a variety of stakeholders, stakeholder communities, and multiple senior leaders.Demonstrate ability to build teams and foster strong relationships with project teams and senior leadership (internal and external).Deep and broad knowledge of project management tools, methods, and approaches available in the industry.Excellent communication and presentation skills and a high degree of comfort speaking with senior stakeholders.Demonstrated ability to be an articulate, consensus-building, and persuasive leader who can serve as an effective collaborator with internal and external teams.Demonstrated excellent written/oral communication skills, technical documentation skills, and personal interaction abilities with a high level of emotional intelligence.Demonstrated ability to be flexible and adapt to new methods and techniques and learn quickly.DESIRED:Supervisory and management experience with teams of more than 5 to 10 is preferred.Experience working within Higher Education or state institutions.Professional experience building and sustaining enterprise-wide PMOs.CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
