Employee Relations Senior ManagerLocation: Boston, MA (3 days onsite, 2 days remote weekly)

General Summary:

Vertex currently operates at the forefront of rare disease scientific innovation and has successfully developed and commercialized multiple breakthrough medicines for Cystic Fibrosis (CF) and Sickle Cell Disease. In addition to clinical development programs in CF, Vertex has more than a dozen ongoing research programs focused on the underlying mechanisms of other serious diseases including programs in Type 1 diabetes, hemoglobinopathies, APOL-1 Mediated Kidney Disease, Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency, and pain.

The Employee Relations Senior Manager is responsible for ensuring Employee Relations (ER) principles and governance is aligned with business objectives in designated business units/client groups, maintains an effective level of business acumen and digital literacy to support data-based decision making, drives functional resiliency and fosters exceptional people culture. This role supports development and maintenance of a best-in-class ER function, and ensures employee concerns are handled timely, fairly, consistently and in accordance with company values and all applicable laws. Additionally, they will partner closely with the ER Director and HRBP function to deliver OneHR value-added service to the business and employees that reflects the business objectives of the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide subject matter expertise and deliver innovative solutions to HR Partners and leaders on ER matters, corrective actions and performance management.

Work across multiple business lines and conduct ER investigations in accordance with best practices, guidelines and key ER principles.

Work in partnership with ER team, HRPBs and Legal Department to lead thorough and objective investigations regarding complaints of harassment, discrimination, retaliation, misconduct and serious policy violations.

Serve as first point of contact for People Experience (PX) team and HRBPs for managing and resolving ER related matters.

Responsible for providing guidance and training to PX Advisors to support their development in managing ER issues.

Partner with ER Director to develop strategies to support the business and PX team, and proactively develop solutions to address trends to support attraction, retention and development of talent and capabilities across the business.

Analyze ER trends and recommend actions, solutions and strategies to address opportunities.

Identify and implement digital tools and resources to support ER function and deployment of ER related data, including a platform for case management, utilization of data analytics/reporting, and trend analysis to support people related solutions and business objectives.

Leverage data, dashboards and analytics to show progress and trends across Vertex goals, and support process optimization.

Lead special projects that positively impact our workforce, promote company values and enhance the employee experience.

Education & Experience:

Bachelor's degree required.

Typically requires a minimum of 7 years of experience in ER, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

General Knowledge & Skills:

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Proven experience in managing multiple projects/tasks in a fast paced environment.

Fluent in English (proficient and conversant in French and Portuguese preferred).

Demonstrated experience in process improvement.

Digital Literacy experience required including Microsoft, Workday, Analytic dashboarding.

Human resources experience, including experience implementing HR strategies, expertise in the areas of employee experience, talent mobility, organizational effectiveness, management development and change management.
