Job Details:Purpose:To steer the vision and strategic direction of Civitas Outlook Online Publication, overseeing its development from initial concept through to publication in alignment with the overarching strategic objectives of the Dean for the school of Civic Leadership.

Responsibilities:

Additional Civitas Editing Work:

Oversee the development and publication of paper series, special feature publications, and podcasts.

In collaboration with the Executive Editor, oversee the Civitas Institute publication schedule.

Providing editing support for other Institution priorities as needed, editing for accuracy, clarity, coherence, and consistent tone and style across all pieces.

Collaborate with authors to refine and polish their work.

Ensure that all content is fact-checked and adheres to the Institute’s guidelines on sourcing and intellectual property.

Civitas Outlook Online Publication:

Develop and implement the editorial vision and strategy for the Civitas Outlook.

Solicit articles, opinion pieces, research summaries, and other relevant content from internal experts and external contributors.

Review and select submissions for publication, ensuring alignment with editorial standards and the organization's objectives.

Set up the publication workflow, including submission guidelines, editorial standards, and publication schedules.

Build and maintain relationships with a network of writers, scholars, and experts to contribute to the Civitas Outlook.

Civitas Public Affairs Work:

Work closely with the Public Affairs Director to align publication efforts with broader media and public relations strategies.

Collaborate with the broader communications team to promote Civitas Outlook content through social media, newsletters, and other channels.

Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in English.

At least 5 years of experience evaluating and editing manuscripts.

Extensive experience in editorial roles, including previous leadership positions such as Senior Editor or Managing Editor. A proven track record of successful publication management is critical.

Ability to develop and implement a strategic vision for the publication, aligning content and editorial decisions with the organization’s overall goals and mission.

Strong project management skills, including the ability to oversee multiple projects simultaneously, manage deadlines, and coordinate with various departments.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex ideas clearly and persuasively to various audiences.

Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to assess editorial performance, make data-driven decisions and adapt strategies as needed.

Familiarity with editorial and publishing software, content management systems, and digital tools used in modern publishing.

Established network within the industry and up-to-date knowledge of trends, challenges, and opportunities in the field of publishing.

High ethical standards and a commitment to maintaining integrity and credibility in all aspects of the publication.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications:

Advanced degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or a related field.

Experience managing an online publication.

Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire a team of editors, writers, and other staff members, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment.

Deep understanding of editorial standards, content strategy, and best practices for writing, editing, and publishing. Proficiency in both traditional and digital media.

Salary Range:$150,000 + depending on qualifications

Working Conditions:

May work around standard office conditions.

Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation.

Use of manual dexterity.
