Job Title: Chief Financial Officer Position

Job Status: Full-time

Job Purpose:

The CFO is the senior financial manager with responsibility for budgeting and forecasting, financial reporting, internal controls, contract administration, property and casualty insurance, coordination of the annual audit and tax return preparation, Board of Director and various Committee presentations, compliance with tax laws and regulations, accounting and general business analysis and decision criteria, and cash management. The CFO reports to the CEO and may also include responsibility for the Human Resources and Information Technology departments.

JOB FACTORS:

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Provide expert financial management and analysis skills to the organization to keep the organization on-goal in all areas of finance.

Coordinate the annual operating and capital budgeting process. Supervise the monthly general ledger close and preparation of timely, accurate and relevant management reports and forecasts.

Manage cash flow to ensure the Zoo meets its Strategic Plan objectives.

Provide accurate and thorough analysis of potential business opportunities for the organization including revenue, operating and capital expense, cash flow and potential financing tools.

Represent the organization with banks, investment firms, retirement plan management firms, insurance carriers, attorneys and all other finance/treasury-oriented relationships to maximize return and minimize expense and risk.

Establish and implement departmental and staff performance goals that support the accomplishment of the organization’s mission and goals.

Develop, implement and monitor written policies and procedures for the Finance and Accounting functions. Ensure that all reporting for the organization is completed in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

Ensure absolute compliance with tax laws, regulations and all compliance reporting.

Manage the annual external audit. Minimize fees. Meet deadlines for annual report preparation.

Review all significant contracts.

Coordinate meetings with the Finance Committee, Investment Committee and Audit Committee, as well as providing financial updates to the Executive Committee and the Board of Directors.

Regularly review purchasing and procurement requirements in conjunction with key vendor requirements and relationships. Ensure that required quality and cost effectiveness guide significant purchasing decisions.

Director Reports:

May support the VP of Human Resources and VP of Information Technology.

Must be willing to support Zoo Atlanta’s Vision, Mission and Values statement.

Any other miscellaneous projects/assignments assigned by Zoo Atlanta’s CEO.

QUALIFICATIONS:

10+ years of progressively more responsible finance positions. Expert knowledge of PC based accounting systems. Working knowledge of MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint.

Zoo Atlanta is open to the public 363 days out of the year; therefore, all positions at Zoo Atlanta may require employees to work some weekends, holidays and evenings.

EDUCATION:

➢ Certificates/Licenses/Registrations: CPA Preferred

➢ Driving Requirements: Zoo policy is to work in office at least three days a week.
