Job SummaryUnder the direction of the Director of Financial Aid, the Associate Director for Operations and Compliance provides technical and functional support to the Financial Aid Office staff. Assist in the efforts to utilize new and existing technology to continuously implement approaches that further automate office functionality, ensure efficiency, and provide the foundation for expanded customer service and effective daily operation of the office.Responsible for ensuring compliance with federal and state financial aid rules and regulations, as well as institutional regulations and policies and procedures. This position involves training of staff, monitoring different processes, assisting in the assessment of existing controls and practices, identifying areas where improvement is needed in relation to Federal Title IV regulations, requirements, and best practices.

Essential Job DutiesAssociate Director Operations DutiesAnalyze and exercise judgment in conducting federal and institutional need analysis, as well as verification and packaging for the processing of federal, state, and institutional aid.Effectively communicate with a diverse population of current and prospective student (and their families) through one-on-one meetings, telephone conversations, presentations, and correspondence.Provide leadership and oversight of implementation, testing, and maintenance of PowerFAIDS as well as business processes.Compliance Officer DutiesServes as the primary resource for federal and state laws, as well as regulations and directives.Assist the Director in establishing and implementing financial aid guidelines, policies, and procedures.Identify and monitor trends in the financial aid and consumer financial protection regulatory environment, assess their impact, and keep stakeholders informed.Research and respond to regulatory questions and issues regarding financial aid.Research, analyze, develop, and recommend departmental processes and procedures to increase and improve operational efficiency and to ensure proper controls and regulatory compliance.Read, comprehend, interpret, implement, and ensure compliance with federal and state regulations and statutes governing Financial Aid programs and services including the Federal Pell Grant, Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant, Federal Work Study, scholarships, and other related programs.Coordinate staff training on continued and changing federal, state, and institutional regulations; review and make recommendations to ensure institutional policies and procedures are updated on a regular and consistent basis.Coordinate the ongoing compliance with federal consumer protection and disclosure requirements with other university departments.Assist in reviewing and providing guidance for the development of federally compliant content for the Financial Aid website.Identify areas of non-compliance with financial aid and consumer financial protection rules and regulations and spearheading development of appropriate corrective actions to manage and mitigate risk and improve compliance practices.

Basic QualificationsBachelor's degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience.Five years of progressively responsible experience in financial aid administration.Project management experience.Supervisory and team motivation experience.Proven experience with financial aid management including process planning, implementation, and maintenance.Applied knowledge of Federal and institutional need analysis policies.Demonstrated ability to work in a team-based organizational structure.Flexibility to adjust priorities quickly.Expert knowledge of general financial aid systems, policies, and procedures and federal and state financial aid regulations.Sophisticated understanding and demonstrated experience with data reporting/analytical skills.Expert utilization of data and current industry technology.

Preferred QualificationsAdvanced degree.Experience with PowerFAIDS.
