As a Marine Pilot, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient navigation of vessels within the port, harbour, and adjacent waters. You will work closely with ship captains, port authorities, and other stakeholders to facilitate the movement of vessels, uphold safety standards, and support the smooth operation of port activities.Accountabilities

Discharging the Duties of a Pilot for the Competent Harbour AuthorityAssist and support the Marine Manager and Assistant Harbour Master in co-ordinating all Marine OperationsAssist with Training & Examination of Pilots & PEC holdersLiaise with Customers, Local Authorities and Government AgenciesAssist in the maintenance of Risk assessments and Safe Systems of Work and ensure all staff are familiar with their requirementsSupervise Marine & Bridge staffMonitor Conservancy FunctionsAssist with the maintenance of the Port Emergency Plans, Marine SMS, associated Procedures and risk management of the Marine functionsAssist with the ongoing management, development and training of team members.Skills, experiences, qualifications and competenciesEssential

STCW II/2 Certificate of CompetencyExperience in a senior officer capacity at seaExperience in ship handling on various types and types of vessel – preferable tonnage range 500GT – 5000GT.Experience of various vessel propulsion and manoeuvring systemsKnowledge of mandatory, regulatory and safety responsibilities relevant to the main duties.A flexible and committed approach to working within a small team that strives to provide a high quality Port and Marine serviceStrong leadership and communication skillsFull UK Driving LicenceIdealPilotage experience desirableExperience as vessel MasterKnowledge of Port Operations and Port Emergency PlansBRM TrainingA current medical fitness certificate, e.g. ENG1Marine Pilots will be required to live within a 30 minute commute of the Lowestoft port. Pilots will work to a 24 hours on/off shift pattern, however this shift pattern is currently under review.
