Key Job Elements

This position reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer of Progress Rail, and manages the following business units:

The wheel, axle, bearing and parts division provides freight car wheel sets, freight car axles, and freight car bearings and parts to the rail customer base. This division is a key supplier to the railroad industry. It supplies to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), Class 1 railroads, short-line railroads and private car owners. Products and services supplied by this division include wheelsets for maintenance or new car (OEM), plated axles/wheelsets, new axles and reconditioned bearings and components.

The recycling division processes retired locomotives and railcars which provide freight car and locomotive cores to be reconditioned and sold to our customers. This division also produces recycled steel product that is sold to customers.

The leasing division procures and leases railcars and locomotives, including full-service lease arrangements providing fleet management, logistics, mobile derailment operations and all mechanical functions relating to railcar and locomotive leasing and repair.

The freight car services division provides new freight car repair, remanufacturing, program work, miscellaneous car repair, inspections, locomotive servicing, switching, large volume program work, complete refurbishment and major rebuilds and warranty repairs at multiple tank/freight car locations.

Travel - More than 50%. Occasional international travel is required.

Qualifications and Experience

A successful candidate will be a demonstrated leader, with strong financial acumen who possesses the customer and market knowledge to develop and execute long term strategic goals for profitable growth. The position requires a college/university degree or equivalent experience, as well as ten to fifteen years of progressively responsible, job-related experience.
