The Specialized Communications Services (“SCS”) Division of Crestone Services Group is seeking a candidate for a full-time

Directional Drill Operator – CDL Preferred

responsible for running a variety of directional drilling equipment, including Directional Drill (Vermeer and/or Ditch Witch), Vac. Truck, Mud Truck, Excavator, Forklift, Dump Truck, Locator, among others.

Duties and Responsibilities

Able to operate a directional drill in standard and high-risk areas such as areas with live utilities.

Knowledge of utility depths and placement.

Ability to read blueprints, and familiarity with Blue Stakes and the identification of marked utilities.

Must have basic computer skills to develop and maintain bore logs.

Organization of material and other resources is necessary to complete excavation requirements, which may include basic hand tools.

At times, you may be required to work in confined spaces, including trenches, manholes, tunnels, closets, crawlspaces.

Respect Company assets (vehicles, equipment, tools, materials, etc.); as if it were your own.

Must be able to read, understand, and follow company policies and procedures.

Proven leadership qualities with the ability to run a job and crew effectively and efficiently.

Ability to modify work schedules to adapt to ever-changing construction deadlines, delays, and weather obstacles.

Advanced knowledge within assigned area of expertise such as directional drilling, excavation, trenching, and fiber optic installation.

Knowledge and experience with traffic control, design, and set up/tear down a plus.

Able to conduct, and document toolbox safety meetings.

Solid customer service skills with a proven track record of effective communication on all levels from General Contractor to Laborer.

General knowledge of construction practices and familiarity with equipment, including routine service and maintenance; washing, check fluids, tire pressures, grease, etc.

Administration and recordkeeping – timecards, change orders, material delivery, truck tickets, plan review/verification, scheduling, equipment rental/return, etc.

Attend ongoing training and education at home or work location.

Housekeeping and general clean-up duties – indoors and/or outdoors.

General material, equipment, and tool inventory, tracking, and control – indoors and/or outdoors.

Inspections (random and scheduled) for day/night jobsite and building security at job sites, yards, storage areas, offices, fabrication shops, mechanic shops, and other work locations.

Utility damage prevention: observations, ticket verification/update, locate requests, locate meets.

Read and understand equipment operator’s manual and equipment technology (e.g., GPS or other grade control systems).

Vehicle and equipment inspections, maintenance, compliance checks, and recordkeeping.

Pressure washing job-specific tasks, clean up, equipment, vehicles.

Raking and spreading materials.

Clerical and/or paperwork as needed.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Requirements

Experience, minimum 5 years, operating a directional drill (Vermeer and/or Ditch Witch).

MSHA and OSHA certificates preferred.

Knowledge of MS Office, specifically Word and Excel.

Proven time management and organizational skills.

Knowledge of basic math.

Excellent communication skills.

Class A CDL.

Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.

Must be able to pass a level 4 background check.

Must be customer-oriented: ability to take care of the customer while following company procedures.

Ability to lift up to 80 lbs. from floor to above head.

Able to work on feet for long periods of time.

Ability to climb up and down ladders, scaffolding, and lifts.

Work in trenches, manholes, tunnels, closets, and crawlspaces.

Working Conditions

Ability to work in extreme heat and cold weather conditions.

Exposure to distracting and loud noise.

Exposure to contaminants, such as fumes.

Exposure to moving equipment.

Salary Range: Based on experience $25-35 hourly.
