Director of Evangelization & Catechesis

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

Responsible for directing a department that supports faith formation for children, youth, and young adults in programs, as well as for adults continuing their faith journey. This includes evangelization, leadership, and development of catechists to lead formation for elementary, middle school, and high school grades, as well as young adults, adults, OCIA, and sacramental and wedding preparation processes. Evangelization is important through community involvement and parish activities.GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Employment in and by the Church is substantially different from secular employment. Church employees must conduct themselves in a manner which is consistent with and supportive of the mission and purpose of the Church. Their public behavior must not violate the faith, morals, or laws of the Church of the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis, nor can it embarrass the Church or give rise to scandal. It is required that this employee be an active, participating Roman Catholic.REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Be present and ready to work on time for all scheduled hours. This may include some weekend hours. Creating an approachable and welcoming environment where all feel comfortable and encouraged.MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITYCatechesis:Recruit, develop, and train catechists for faith formation, teaching our children and youth about Jesus Christ.Provide opportunities and programs that help grow the Faith for Life’s program and student involvement.Plan, manage, and assess formation learning programs and content.Provide ongoing support for the Faith for Life Department team and assist in managing and scheduling programs.Manage Faith for Life marketing and registration process with team.Manage formation team in confirmation, youth ministry, young adult, and OCIA ministries.Develop, coordinate, and promote adult ministry offerings.Evangelization through Catechesis - give witness and education to others on our Catholic faith.Actively participate in parish community events.Small Groups: Synod Implementation.Sacramental preparation:Manage Faith for Life team to provide an experience to those preparing for sacraments that focus on the meaning and value of the sacraments important in the Catholic faith.Coordinate Baptismal, First Reconciliation, First Eucharist, and marriage preparation content.School Support:Communicate with school religion teacher on structure and resources for the school liturgies (i.e. Mass) and sacramental planning.Management:Supervise and motivate the Faith for Life team for department effectiveness and efficiencies.Organize Faith for Life Commission meeting on a regular basis.Strategize short and long-term goals for the Faith for Life programs.Work with site coordinator to ensure PCYI compliance (Protection of Children and Youth Initiative).MENTAL DEMANDS:Strong leadership abilities.Interacts and communicates well with others.Supportive and confidential.Ability to use a computer’s Word application.QUALIFICATIONS:Education Level: Catholic Religious Studies, helpful.Level of Experience: Five+ years of parish ministry experience, preferred.Experience in catechesis, religious instruction or the ability to learn programs.Active, participating Catholic who loves the Church and embraces what it teaches.Committed to parish vision and values.Strong detail-oriented and organized.All positions must successfully complete the standard Archdiocese Background check.Job Type: Full-timeHealth insurance.Paid time off.Vision insurance.
