Position Summary:
The Supplier Quality Engineer collaborates with quality assurance, domestic supply chain, operations, and engineering to identify and address opportunities for continuous improvement related to on-time delivery of quality parts and materials into the Taco Cranston facility.
This allows Taco to provide customers with the highest quality and reliable products. The Supplier Quality Engineer drives improvements in key performance indicators related to domestic supplier performance.
They support the development and implementation of a structured Supplier Audit Program and drive corrective actions from the audits.
The Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) collaborates with key stakeholders to ensure parts meet design, industry, and process specifications consistently.
Measures of success:
Improved domestic supplier on-time delivery
Reduced domestic supplier discrepant material issues
Increased continuous improvement plans with domestic suppliers
Reduce days aging for Material Review Board (MRB) Supplier Corrective Action Requests (SCARs) to
Reduce the number of case files in Epicor to
Generate 8 supplier corrective actions annually and drive them back into the supply chain by performing root cause analysis on returned merchandise authorizations (RMAs)
Perform 4 process supplier audits annually
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Conducts external audits of critical domestic suppliers to ensure products are of high quality; identifies, analyzes data, closes and follows up on audit findings
Monitors and communicates domestic Supply Chain Quality KPIs and identify and drive improvement plans based on trends and pareto analyses
Prepares comprehensive report of root cause of failures; distributes to appropriate personnel for possible corrective action
Reviews an add critical to fit dimensions to drawings for domestic suppliers to measure in their process
Generates quality control plans with the domestic supply base to clearly identify the supplier’s deliverables to Taco before the product ships
Ensures purchased products and components are manufactured and qualified by the supplier in accordance with applicable industry standards, regulatory requirements, and customer requirements
Implements strategies and quality methodologies for driving product quality and continuous improvement within the domestic supply chain using various quality methodologies
Maintains quality records for domestic supply chain, monitors supplier scorecard performance and issues corrective actions when required
Works with Taco’s finance and procurement personnel to resolve any open receiving discrepancies for both intercompany and domestic supply base
Records and/or compiles variables data from product/process measurements
Monitors and reports on the status of rejected material in quarantine locations
Coordinates containment actions to prevent further escape of non-conforming materials; reviews and approves written corrective action responses from suppliers and Taco
Supports rigorous analysis of part and supplier data to ensure high priority quality and supply issues have clear corrective action plans
Qualifications
Required:
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Electrical or Industrial Engineering
7+ years of experience in working with quality methodologies and procurement processes
Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
Proficiency in Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems (Epicor a plus) and quality management software (ETQ a plus)
Demonstrated ability to drive performance improvements in supplier or product Quality
Strong oral and written communication skills
Strong data analytic skills
Travel up to 25-35% of time to supplier locations (some international travel may be required)
Preferred:
Master’s Degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Electrical or Industrial Engineering
American Society for Quality (ASQ) Certified Quality Engineer
Six-Sigma Green Belt or higher
Work Environment
This position works primarily in an office environment using computers and technology.
Verbal and auditory capability are required.
Occasional exposure in production plant where large equipment and noise are prevalent.
Safety gear is required in these areas.
This position reports into the site every day.
This position has no direct reports.
