Department OverviewThe Electric System Planning organization is responsible for delivering a stable, predictable, and optimized multi-year work plan. The key functional organizations we interact with include asset management, regulatory strategy, business finance, design and engineering, and customer service planning and design. The organization is focused on serving our hometowns by mastering PG&E's asset knowledge and customer electric needs while building short and long-term work plans to ensure safe, reliable, and sustainable operations.

Position SummaryThe Director of Integrated Grid Planning oversees the team that builds a 10-year optimized work plan for the Electric organization. This team will engage with multiple teams across electric to quantify the electric system needs, solutions to solve those needs, cost to execute those solutions, and impact of each solution. With this information, the team will create an optimized 10-year work plan to solve as many needs as possible with the least amount of resources. This plan will be created in cooperation with asset management, business finance, and operations to ensure it meets the expectations of our asset owners, is executable by our operations team, and meets the affordability targets for our customers.

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business needs. The assigned work location will be within the Service Territory.

Reporting RelationshipThe Director, Integrated Grid Planning reports to the Vice President, Electric System Planning and will lead a team of direct and indirect reports including manager(s), analysts, engineers, project managers, and contractors. The Director leads staff to accomplish results through effective recruitment and selection, training and development, performance management, and rewards and recognition.

Job Responsibilities

Leads team that develops, maintains, and governs the end-to-end integrated grid planning process for Electric transmission and distribution.

Establishes 10-year optimized plan for electric transmission and distribution within the annual expense and capital expenditure budget allocation.

Ensures development of a risk-based strategic 10-year plan, designed to maximize operational throughput and meet all KPI targets as directed by leadership.

Develops documentation to show impacts of 10-year plan execution and provides scenarios for leadership decisions and support of implementation.

Works closely with governance processes, including Electric Organization Plan Delivery Center (PDC) and Change Control boards.

Works directly with enterprise risk team to include risk models in optimization plans to optimize risk reduction and other outcomes in 10-year work plan.

Collaborates with electric operations to understand how work planning can enhance crew throughput and design work plans to utilize crew resources to their fullest.

Partner with asset management and system planning to identify and quantify asset health needs of the electric system and incorporate these needs in all work plan outcomes and be able to explain why certain programs or work units get prioritized over each other.

Act as witness or SME in regulatory filings when discussing multiyear plans.

Engages all stakeholders involved in the integrated grid planning process, including:

Asset Management - for work identification and forecasting

Process Owners - for work identification and forecasting

Business Finance - for Enterprise finance schedule and cost book

Risk Management - for GRC risk management guidance and risk models

Regulatory - for alignment with regulatory filings including GRC

Reporting and Analytics - for visibility work readiness

Resource Planning - for executable plans

Operations - for efficiencies and waste elimination

Senior Leadership Team - integrated grid plan approval

Provides guidance, timelines, and standard work expectations to all stakeholders to facilitate the process.

Leads, manages, and fosters a cohesive team supporting enterprise processes for work and financial forecasting and reporting. Ensures team is adequately staffed with sufficient expertise to cover assigned responsibilities and project work.

Improve the integrated planning processes year over year using Lean principles.

CompensationPG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.

A reasonable salary range is:

Bay Area Minimum: $178,000

Bay Area Maximum: $304,000

Background QualificationsMinimum

Bachelor's degree in Finance, Engineering or related discipline, or equivalent experience.

10 years, or equivalent, of electric or related industry experience.

Direct experience leading teams.

Desired

Master's degree in Finance, Engineering, Economics, Business or related field, or equivalent experience.

Project Management Certification (PMP).

Continuous Improvement / Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification.

5 years of supervisory/managerial experience.

Operational experience in Finance, rate making activities, and investment planning.
