Salary Range

$85,000.00 depending on qualifications

Essential Functions

The Deputy Athletic Director is responsible for providing high-level administrative leadership to the entire UTPB Athletics Department. This position must be highly communicative, driven by excellence, and possess a robust set of leadership characteristics. This individual must work in a team environment and exhibit a high level of organizational capacity, personnel development, integrity, perseverance, initiative, customer service focus, and solution-mindedness. This position will serve as a vital part of the department’s senior leadership team with a primary focus on several of the department’s most essential internal operations. This individual will be a critical thought partner and decision maker within the overall department. Additionally, the Deputy AD will oversee the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics in the absence of the Director.

The Deputy AD works a Monday-Friday schedule, plus frequent and irregular hours associated with events.

The person in this role will be expected to represent UTPB professionally in a way that aligns with the University Texas Permian Basin’s overall strategy & culture.

Assists the VP for Athletics in the overall management, supervision, and leadership of the department.

Serve as second in command and oversee the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics in the absence of the VP for Athletics.

Oversee and provide direct supervision of staff in Athletics departmental functional areas to include head coaches of assigned sports, facilities and events, internal operations, student success, athletic training, strength & conditioning.

Work closely with and assist the VP for Athletics in the preparation, management and maintenance of department and program budgets to ensure sustainability and stability in compliance with University policies and procedures.

Work closely with and assist the VP for Athletics in external fundraising activities.

Advise the VP for Athletics on numerous fronts, including, but not limited to, long-range/strategic planning initiatives, departmental policies/procedures development and execution, resource planning, allocation, and management, and personnel matters within the department.

Partner with various campus departments as well as external constituents.

Represent the university at appropriate Conference, NCAA, and university meetings.

May also serve as the department’s Senior Woman Administrator.

Oversee all related special projects.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree

Seven (7) years of related experience including professional staff supervisory experience in intercollegiate athletics

Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with multiple interests in a collegiate setting

Excellent oral, collaborative, and interpersonal communication skills.

Knowledge of intercollegiate athletic programs, rules, and regulations.

Possess demonstrable and effective organizational skills

Schedule

Generally, the normal work hours for the university are Monday through Thursday, 7:30 – 5:30 pm; Friday, 8:00 am – 12:00 pm with a one-hour lunch. The individual holding this position may need to be available early morning, evening, and on weekends to meet the needs of the department. Hours worked may differ with some departments.

Standard Working Conditions

Able to lift various materials up to 25 pounds on an occasional basis.

Able to bend, crouch, and reach continuously.

Physically able remain seated, frequently to continuously.

Able to remain standing up to 15% of the time.

Possesses dexterity abilities required to perform job duties including extensive keyboard work, operating office equipment, performing filing, and other job-related responsibilities that include extensive wrist and hand movement.
