R0003441Job Summary:The associate vice president of safety and security is responsible for the organization, operation, supervision, and administration of the safety and security department. The individual in this role must be exceptionally attuned to the needs and experiences of Colby's diverse community and be adept at supporting and enhancing the campus experience of all those with whom they work.The associate vice president of safety and security will work collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, and other constituents to enhance the campus safety and security environment and ensure the work of the department reflects the College's commitment to building and maintaining fully inclusive and transparent relationships with internal and external communities. This individual will partner with senior leadership to establish and execute upon a functional operating model for campus security and safety to meet the current and future needs of the College.Essential Functions and Responsibilities:Design, develop, implement, and oversee comprehensive services and programs that support and respond to the safety and security needs of the College community.Ensure the department has comprehensive and formalized policies that meet contemporary standards in campus safety and security.Provide executive oversight of the recruitment, hiring, training, and supervision of staff, including professional development and training programs.Develop and implement effective emergency management response protocols and manage the campus emergency operations plan for all aspects of the campus including natural disasters, crimes, and accident/incident reports.Function as incident command when the campus emergency response plan is activated and conduct regular training exercises for College employees who have responsibilities in emergency operations.Monitor and communicate developments in industry trends, best practices in higher education, and the regulatory environment.Oversee the development and delivery of training and outreach to faculty, staff, and students on guidelines and programs to minimize risk and ensure regulatory compliance.Manage department budget and act as responsible steward of assigned College funds and facilities.Develop policies and procedures for special event security for College special events, student life activities, and athletic events.Ensure the campus community is informed and educated about the safety and security issues impacting them and is aware of services provided by the department.Qualifications:Substantial and progressive leadership experience in security, public safety, emergency management, or related field.Innovative thinker capable of conducting a holistic assessment of campus safety and security operations and developing a strategic vision.Demonstrated ability to develop effective and sustained relationships with students, faculty, and staff.Exceptional interpersonal skills and leadership ability.Demonstrated effective written and oral communication skills.Strong conflict resolution and negotiation skills.Knowledge and experience with safety and security technology systems.Must be flexible, have great attention to detail, and show initiative.Key Relationships:The director of security works closely with senior leadership, general counsel, student affairs, facilities services, safety, risk management, information technology services, human resources, and public safety agencies.Colby is an equal opportunity employer and operates in accordance with federal and state laws regarding non-discrimination.
