Salary : $47,176.00 - $58,970.00 AnnuallyLocation : Globe, AZJob Type: Full-TimeJob Number: 23-112Department: Public WorksOpening Date: 06/20/2024Purpose of the JobThe purpose of this position is to provide maintenance, advanced diagnostics, and performs repairs both out in the field and in the shop in order to ensure Gila County and it's employees have safe, reliable and properly operating vehicles and equipment in addition to ensuring a clean and safe workplace. Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesSUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIESThis position does not supervise other employees. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESTIME SPENTPerforms preventative maintenance, repairs, minor and major overhauls, car/truck/equipment performance evaluations, welding and fabrication and comprehensive multi-point safety inspections on all County cars, trucks and equipment to include cars, trucks, dump trucks, water trucks, transport trucks and trailers, roll off trucks, skid steers, backhoes, loaders, compactors, motor graders, bulldozers, and other specialized construction equipment and trailers.Performs diagnostics to determine the nature of repairs required to ensure cars/trucks/equipment are safe and operable, including road tests before and after the repairs.Performs maintenance and repairs on gasoline engines, diesel engines, manual and automatic transmissions, drivetrain components, tires, air brake/brakes, steering and suspension, exhaust and aftertreatment systems, hydraulic systems, air systems, electrical/electronic systems, and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems.Assists with cars, light duty trucks, trailers, small gasoline engines, small equipment, generators, pumps, law enforcement equipment and other specialized types of equipment as required.May supervise other employees in the absence of the Vehicle & Equipment Maintenance Supervisor.40%Uses a variety of computers, computer software, laptops, scanners/printers, diagnostic equipment, scan tools, hand tools. power tools, service trucks and specialized equipment such as automotive lifts, pressure washers, cranes, welders, forklifts, and similar types of equipment as required. Documents and records repair and maintenance information both on paper and electronically via fleet management software.25%Operates a variety of cars, trucks, service trucks, service equipment and towing equipment to provide field service maintenance and repairs and to provide emergency services for County vehicles and equipment sometimes after hours as deemed necessary.15%Designs, fabricates, modifies, repairs and paints trucks and equipment using grinders, plasma cutters, and torches, brazing, fiberglass and a variety of welding styles and techniques. Installs additional equipment, modifications, emergency lighting and decaling such as stripes and emblems on County, law enforcement and emergency vehicles.10%Maintains and keeps a clean and organized workplace including sweeping, mopping, picking up tools, and cleaning work benches; cleans and fuels trucks and equipment; picks up and delivers trucks and equipment in the field.10%Performs other duties as assigned.BUDGET RESPONSIBILITIESThis position has no responsibility over any types of budget.PROJECT RESPONSIBILITIESThis position does not have project responsibilities.ORAL COMMUNICATION DUTIESThis position trains colleagues, explains County procedures or processes, communicates with customers, and staff.WRITTEN COMMUNICATION DUTIESThis position creates or edits documents, internal memos, emails, and reports. This position inputs repair and maintenance records via fleet management software.INTERACTIONS WITH THE GENERAL PUBLICInteracts regularly with internal coworkers and other departmental personnel over the telephone, by email, and/or in person. Incidental contact with the public may occur as part of the work location. INTERACTIONS SPECIFICALLY WITH CUSTOMERSConsistently (More than 40% but less than 55% in a year) Minimum Education/Directly Related Experience RequiredMINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIREDHigh School Diploma or GED.MINIMUM YEARS OF DIRECTLY RELATED EXPERIENCE REQUIREDTwo (2) years combined of directly related on the job experience in car, truck, and equipment maintenance diagnostics, and repair; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.PROFESSIONAL CREDENTIALS REQUIREDMust possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. A valid Arizona Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Tanker and HAZMAT Endorsements is required. Certifications in Gasoline Engine Repair, Diesel Engine Maintenance, Steering & Suspension, Brakes and Climate Control required.Position is subject to drug and alcohol testing. PHYSICAL DEMANDSRegularly stands to perform work, attend to customers, perform custodial work, and work with arms above head to perform tasks.Occasionally sits to document repairs, complete reports, and to operate special equipment.May be required to lift work related materials, equipment, tools, and/or gears up to 75 lbs. Constantly requires dexterity for keyboard operation, special tools and special machines.Incumbents in this position may be required to occasionally walk to and from work sites, regularly bend, occasioanlly stoop, crawl, twist, kneel in/out/over/under vehicles and equipment and work from heights to complete tasks.WORK ENVIRONMENTIncumbents in this position perform work in the field as well as in a maintenance shop environment and regularly spends time outside and in and around construction type areas; may occasionally spend time in the office environment. SAFETY RISK EXPOSUREIncumbents in this position may be exposed to variable weather conditions when repairing vehicles in the field, exposure to engine, transmission, and hydraulic oils, cleaning solvents, physical danger, mechanical hazards, chemical hazards, electrical hazards, fire hazards, respiratory hazards, extreme temperature, and noise and vibration.PROTECTIVE GEAR & SAFETY MANUALSIncumbents in this position are required to constantly follow written and/or electronic safety procedures and manuals relevant to the division or department. This position constantly requires safety footwear, eye protection devices, and hard hat.
