The Opportunity:

Headquartered in the Hudson Valley of New York State, about a 70-minute train ride from New York City, The Garden Conservancy is a national nonprofit organization with a mission to preserve, share, and celebrate America’s gardens and diverse gardening traditions for the education and inspiration of the public.Position Summary:

As a key member of the communications team, the communications manager will collaborate closely with the director of communications to elevate the Conservancy's profile among the public and all key constituencies—donors, prospects, members, partners, volunteers, and media—to increase visibility, favorability, and encourage participation in the Conservancy and its programs. They will expand the Garden Conservancy’s audience and increase engagement by innovatively harnessing best practices for print publications, digital content, public relations, and social media. They will write and edit assets that expand the appeal and deepen public understanding of the organization; and manage the day-to-day functioning of our social media programs. This is a hands-on role that collaborates across the organization, buoying The Garden Conservancy’s campaigns and development efforts.Duties and ResponsibilitiesDevelop and refine compelling content across various platforms (articles, email newsletters, press releases, social media, website) to advance the Conservancy’s mission and drive engagement and support programmatic and membership goals.Lead the development and execution of a robust social media strategy to increase audience reach and interaction.Help build and maintain strong relationships with media outlets to generate positive press coverage.Analyze digital metrics to improve effectiveness of Communication efforts.Oversee day-to-day administration of the Garden Conservancy website, track content, and update as needed to ensure all online content is up to date.Edit photographic and video content using tools in Adobe Creative Suite.Monitor and analyze website metrics and adjust search engine optimization to increase traffic.Collaborate with graphic designers, photographers, printers, software vendors and consultants.Assist with the production of 8+ digital publications a year, including three newsletters, two educational catalogs, an annual report, the Garden Conservancy Open Days™ Directory, and our yearly accomplishments publication.Gather all organizational collateral materials for the organization’s archives, including the publications noted above, brochures, note cards, invitations, and event programs.Gather and catalog digital materials (photos, graphics, text) on the organization’s Adobe Bridge asset platform.Performs other duties as assigned.Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesOutstanding writing skills, copyediting, and proofreading skills.Detail orientation combined with attention to the bigger picture.Editorial project management skills.Experience interfacing with the mediaFamiliarity with social media tools for Instagram and Facebook platforms.Must be able to lift 30 poundsComputer SkillsTo perform this job successfully, an individual should have experience using Microsoft Office Suite, design and Adobe Creative Suite (or their equivalents), search engine optimization, databases, and digital content management systems.Education/ExperienceBachelor's degree from a four-year college or university; or three to five years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.CompensationThe hiring salary for this position is $73,900 - $86,900, based on experience. This position includes generous time off, benefits, and room for career growth. Travel is required and training will be provided for certain tasks.
