LST covers topics such as decision-making, coping with stress, and resisting peer pressure. Young people can gain practical life skills, emotional intelligence, and the ability to resist negative influences that can lead to substance abuse.The Prevention Counselor conducts substance abuse prevention group services to children and youth in designated Broward schools/areas under the direction of the Program Supervisor. They will work with children and youth to build resistance and social competency skills to change attitudes/behaviors, prevent and reduce substance use, and promote healthy behaviors. The counselor is responsible for documentation, and collecting and organizing program data. The counselor is also responsible for maintaining productivity as determined by the grant and the program supervisor.How you get to use your skills…Provide a variety of fun and engaging activities to help youth build skills and develop resiliency, including group discussions and structured activities.Complete ongoing and daily documentation, including but not limited to, prevention activity logs, fidelity checklists, and attendance sheets.Collect and gather evaluation data for program outcomes.File documentation in assigned charts on a weekly basis.Attend community meetings and conduct outreach activities, as needed.Participate in ongoing substance abuse training required by the grant, and complete all agency-required training within the designated deadlines.Attend supervision with the Program Supervisor on a weekly basis.Schedule: ExemptFlexible schedule to meet program needs, including evenings and weekends as needed; regular hours 9:00 am - 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday.Experience and Skills:

Master’s degree in Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, or Mental Health Counseling.Registered as a clinical intern in the state of Florida and have a minimum of one year experience working with at-risk youth.Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.Ability to prioritize, organize, and schedule workload effectively and efficiently.Requires flexibility for scheduling and traveling.Excellent ability to work directly with the public and out in the community.Ability to work with diverse groups and individuals.Direct contact with clients required.Valid Florida Driver’s License.
