About the PositionCQ Roll Call is seeking an experienced journalist to direct its political coverage, with an emphasis on House and Senate congressional races. We are investing in our people and our print, digital, data and multimedia tools to enhance our storytelling and are leveraging two quality media brands with a strong history in Washington journalism.We’re looking for someone who generates distinctive story ideas, identifies trends, illuminates issues that drive voters, and can produce content for multiple platforms that drives the debate during a campaign. We seek a journalist who can lead and inspire reporters to produce high-impact, enterprising stories about candidates, voters, influential groups and advocates that go well beyond the horse race.About the CQ Roll Call TeamCQ and Roll Call report on political power through the lens of Congress, from the campaigns that send members of Congress to Washington to the biographies of those members, the legislative process and the people and organizations shaping it both inside the federal government and outside of it.About YouYou are comfortable digging into the finer details of the campaign and elections process works, and managing a team that reports primarily in Washington but also from the campaign trail and in the parts of the country where the most significant political developments take place.The salary range for the role is $105,000 - 125,000 per year.What To Expect In This PositionAssign, edit and produce stories on tight deadlines for multiple digital and print products, including a newspaper, newsletters and magazineCoach, lead, manage and partner with a talented team of political reportersShape, develop and produce content for video, audio and graphics to complement storiesDevelop a variety of story-telling techniques that showcase content on different platformsWork collaboratively with other CQ Roll Call reporters and editors on stories that connect the dots between people, policy and politicsAnalyze and incorporate data in your journalismWork with production and editing teams to ensure smooth workflowHelp amplify CQ Roll Call’s journalism and brands through social media, events, and news media appearancesWhile travel is not expected to be a large part of this role, you should be comfortable with travel up to 10% of the timeWhat Sets You ApartA strong track record of reporting, writing and editing high-impact journalismExcellent news judgment and copy editing skillsA desire to produce journalism that is nonpartisan and carefully reportedMastery of AP style6+ years of daily journalism experience3+ years experience working with campaign finance and financial disclosure requirements and filing deadlines (FEC, lobbying disclosure etc.)Familiarity with congressional biographical data and voting recordsProficiency with WordPressExperience editing text for video and information graphics
